With such an undertaking as Andrew Marr's History of the World, it's likely that a lot will be overlooked or omitted. However, there are some things -- fundamental building blocks of human history -- which cannot be sacrificed for expediency.

A critique of what was missing from Andrew Marr's programme. 

 

Leaving out Mesopotamia from the first episode has been met with criticism, much of it from archaeologists and historians blogging and writing about the show.

The University of the Highlands and Islands and Orkney's community archaeologist, Julie Gibson, said: "Scotland has the longest coastline in Europe and, as a maritime nation, much of our heritage relates to the sea. Around Orkney, more than one thousand archaeological sites are threatened or are being actively damaged.
