Research finds salt tolerance gene in soybean

A collaborative research project between Australian and Chinese scientists has shown how soybean can be bred to better tolerate soil salinity.
Japan Aquaponics's insight:

This is very interesting - with significant areas of land being lost to increased salinity every single day, the ability to potentially breed crops with higher tolerances to salinity could be extremely important.  In aquaponics, this could mean the ability to use new types of fish if we can run systems with higher salinity levels and still have crops remain viable.
