Chef Dan Barber squares off with a dilemma facing many chefs today: how to keep fish on the menu.
Charlie Dare's insight:

Chicken waste used by one farm not another They are simply two kinds of sustainability, one focusing on the maximization of profits and minimization of space used, and the other maximizing the impact on the ecosystem. There is not a good way to tell which is more effective, because the percentage of farms that use the latter method is very small. But he is right, it does taste better!

Sustainably Grown Blackworm Identified as a Alternative Aquaculture Feed

Sustainably Grown Blackworm Identified as a Alternative Aquaculture Feed | Aquaponics~Aquaculture~Fish~Food | Scoop.it
NETHERLANDS - New research is now taking place into the plant-fed blackworm as an alternative feed for farmed fish.
Charlie Dare's insight:

Research to grow a big volumn goes on for another year feeding worms apple and wheat in a cyclinder through which only their heads can access the waste food .

These worms convert low-grade materials into high-grade food substances such as proteins, sugars and fats. Their food source consists of plant waste. On average they grow to 6 cm long and weigh between 6 and 10 mg. They reproduce by constantly splitting in two. As all worms consist of an old and a new part, it is not possible to determine how old they are. - See more at: http://www.thefishsite.com/fishnews/21294/sustainably-grown-blackworm-identified-as-a-alternative-aquaculture-feed?sthash.E47uCcnA.mjjo&goback=%2Egde_3681570_member_274880482#%21
