CANADA - Enterra Feed Corporation has received approval from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to sell its Whole Dried Black Soldier Fly Larvae as a feed ingredient for salmonids, including farmed salmon, trout and arctic char.

Fish farmers are always looking for sustainable feed that can make fish strong and healthy. A new study led by the CSIC in Spain concludes that marine feed ingredients in aquaculture can potentially be replaced by plant ingredient

The team's next steps will be to investigate if the benefits of the butyrate supplement can also be found in the protein and bacteria composition found in the digestive system: "It is a big challenge to understand how these functional features are modified by genetic and epigenetic factors and an important step towards establishing gilthead sea bream as a powerful model for the development of sustainable and heathy fish feeds," says Dr Pérez-Sanchez. O ne of Australia’s premium global producers of fresh and smoked salmon products, Huon Aquaculture, recently opened its smokehouse and product innovation center in Parramatta Creek, Tasmania. The project was part of a 10-month construction program to upgrade, centralize and future-proof the large-scale salmon producer’s operations. After the existing site was refurbished, and an extension was added to double the business’s footprint, the new facility opened in July 2015. Now, Huon’s full range of seafood processing is together, including whole fish, fresh fish and value-added . . .

A disease that has the potential to decimate Australian prawn stocks has been found on two farms south of Brisbane weeks ahead of Christmas. White spot disease (WSD) is highly contagious and lethal to crustaceans, and has reduced prawn farm productivity by up to 40 percent overseas.

American ginseng and Asian ginseng (P. ginseng) roots, including roles as an aphrodisiac, stimulant, type II diabetes treatment, or cure for sexual dysfunction in men. Nearly all of the world's 80,000 tons of ginseng is grown in four countries: South Korea, China, Canada, and the United States. The product is marketed in over 35 countries. Sales exceeded $2.1 billion, of which half comes from South Korea.

Solid state lighting has energized horticultural research into plant responses to light sources with different spectral power distributions, and there will surely be discoveries that improve our understanding of both photosynthesis and photomorphogenesis, as well as improvements in horticultural lighting design. In the meantime, the phytochrome photostationary state (PSS) metric is an example of existing knowledge that will likely prove useful in designing and specifying horticultural lighting systems.
