Disagreements over how the Chilean salmon farming sector should be regulated have inspired Marine Harvest to renounce its membership of SalmonChile, the producers’ organisation.

Neptune Pharma: tackling lice with a trident approach | Aquaculture Directory

Neptune Pharma: tackling lice with a trident approach | Aquaculture Directory | Aquaculture Directory | Scoop.it
The global aquaculture industry is booming thanks to growing appetites for healthy and affordable protein-rich food sources. Remarkably, the growth in output of farmed fish has managed to outpace global population growth, leading to a ready supply at an affordable cost.

The sector’s expansion also offers a reprieve for wild stocks which have been under pressure for many years. A notable area a success has been the growth of the farmed salmon sector, with year-on-year output having grown steadily in the last decade.

I scooped this post because of the 'Mission Blue' heading. Mission Blue is a movie created by Sylvia Earle and is one of the most effective in persuading its audience to protect the environment and preserve our natural resources. A powerful statement is also in the heading: "“No Ocean, No Us”. I believe this is one of the concluding statements in the movie and is a very true statement considering all the ocean provides us. Natural preservation is something that will most definitely be apart of my future.

Freshwater shrimp farming sees success in Nilphamari | Aquaculture Directory

Freshwater shrimp farming sees success in Nilphamari | Aquaculture Directory | Aquaculture Directory | Scoop.it
The English saying 'you can't teach an old dog new tricks' suggests that as people age they are less open to change, that they become set in their ways.

Nilphamari farmer Omar Faruk, 60, from Shokher Bazar village in sadar upazila is busy proving the saying wrong. In the latter part of his farming life, this year he's established an innovative shrimp farm in fresh water, a first for the district.

Faruk has traditional aquaculture experience. He has a number of ponds surrounding his house where he raises by habit commonly cultivated fish species like rui, katol, mrigel, kalbaus and carp. He's done that for many years and in the process he established good relations with local fisheries department officials.
