More signs have appeared to show that East Asian countries are interested in Iran's fish farming business. China has joined South Korea to announce that it is planning to invest $3 billion in Iran's fisheries. 

Hassan Salehi, the head of Iran Fisheries Organization, has been quoted by the media as saying that China's decision to make the investment had been communicated to him through the country's deputy agriculture minister during a recent visit to Tehran.

The Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) is calling the decision to release the Placentia Bay aquaculture project from environmental assessment irresponsible and unlawful. 

In a news release Monday, the group said Grieg NL Seafarms Ltd.’s plan to produce up to seven million farmed fish annually has the potential to wipe out the remaining wild Atlantic salmon in the bay through disease, sea lice infestation an interbreeding.

The Scottish Fishermen's Federation (SFF) has welcomed the decision today (28 July) by the Scottish Government to reject an application by the Sustainable Inshore Fisheries Trust for a Regulating Order for the Firth of Clyde. 

The SFF, along with the Clyde Fishermen’s Association (CFA) had maintained that such a management regime was totally unnecessary, given that the Clyde fishery is already heavily regulated.

Nikashe Sema, Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Fisheries Department today said that the fisheries practice in Nagaland is still primitive and therefore the fish farmers need to technically upgrade themselves with modern type of farming in order to produce sufficiently in the State. 

Speaking as chief guest at the inaugural session of a two-day workshop on ‘Co-management of fisheries and aquaculture in Nagaland’ being held from July 27 to 28 at Hotel Japfü, the Secretary further urged the participants to acquire enough knowledge and disseminate it to other farmers.

An innovative new test for seawater readiness, co-funded by the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC), could boost Scottish exports – both of farmed salmon and the country’s technological expertise. 

The 12-month Rapid Response project will see Europharma Scotland Ltd, PrimerDesign Ltd, the Institute of Aquaculture at the University of Stirling and SAIC invest a combined £78,190 to address a key decision faced by managers of salmon hatcheries: when to transfer young salmon from freshwater hatchery and nursery facilities to seawater salmon pens.

Nine fishermen's lives have been lost at sea in the first six months of this year in six different incidents, a worryingly high figure for this stage in the year and there is concern this number could rise.
