Video is everywhere today: it has entered our lives, transforming the way we live, work, learn, communicate and play. In education, video can be found at the heart and the helm of some of the most innovative trends in higher education: to achieve deeper learning during face-to-face time, as primary part of content in distance and blended learning situations, especially in MOOCs. This one day workshop aims to bring together some of the most innovative practitioners involved in providing video services in European Higher Education Institutions to discuss and exchange experiences, to highlight collective challenges and to explore opportunities for collaboration. It builds on the successful workshops held on lecture capture in Leuven in 2012 and 2013 prior to the Media & Learning Conference.

 

This full day pre-conference event is organised by the Media & Learning Association SIG on Video in Higher Education in association with the new SIG Media & Education from SURFnet in the Netherlands which brings together the previous work of the WEBstroom and Weblectures SIGs.

Evaluation on the use of e-learning tools to support teaching and learning in aquaculture and aquatic sciences education - Online First - Springer | Aqua-tnet | Scoop.it

The study aimed to capture a snapshot of the status of educational means used in teaching and learning in the area of aquaculture, fisheries and aquatic resources management at European level, with specific consideration on the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) and e-learning tools. To achieve this goal, an online survey was compiled and made available to teachers and students across Europe. In total, teachers from 31 institutions and students from 40 institutions participated in this survey. This paper presents the findings, considers trends and poses further questions for sector stakeholders to help in the development of future programmes and support. In summary, it can be concluded that few teachers have a comprehensive knowledge of the wide range of ICT tools available and can make use of e-learning tools with complete confidence. There is therefore a real and urgent need to “train the trainers” to use ICT in their teaching environments. From the students’ end, there is a strong desire to learn more about the application of e-learning tools and to use them in their learning process.

Mainstreaming ICT enabled Innovation in Education and Training in Europe: Policy actions for sustainability, scalability and impact at system level. - JRC Science Hub

 

In this report policy recommendations for up calling creative classrooms are presented. Almost 150 experts participated in on line consultation and evaluated the 60 policy recommendations, that were collected at several stages of the project. The recommendations were clustered into seven dimensions presenting a holistic agenda for education reform: content and curricula, assessment, school staff professional development, research, organisation and leadership, connectedness and infrastructure. Policy on the EU level as well as on local, regional and school level should support agents of change in their mainstreaming and up-scaling innovative practices. The on-line consultation revealed the following dimensions as most important: school staff professional development, infrastructure and assessment. In general however, there was broad agreement that all the dimensions need to be addressed for further developing and mainstreaming ICT- enabled innovation for learning in Europe.

ICT in Agriculture

ICT in Agriculture | Aqua-tnet | Scoop.it

Realizing the profound potential of information and communication technologies in developing country agriculture, the Agriculture and Rural Development Department (ARD) of the World Bank in collaboration with infoDev (part of the World Bank Group) embarked in an effort to explore and capture the expanding knowledge and use of ICT tools in agrarian livelihoods.  In November 2011, the World Bank released an electronic Sourcebook (e-Sourcebook) to initiate further (and better) investment in this sector.  Called “ICT in Agriculture”, the e-Sourcebook provides practitioners within and outside of the World Bank Group with lessons learned, guiding principles, and hundreds of examples and case studies on applying information and communication technologies in poor agriculture. 

 

The e-Sourcebook is provided fully and freely on this website.  Fifteen modules touch on a wide spectrum of sub-fields in agriculture, including risk management, gender, forest governance, and farmers organizations.  The Introduction (Module 1) introduces users to the ‘ICT in agriculture’ topic, offering key themes throughout the sourcebook as well as more details on how to use it.
 
Each module is stand-alone in format, providing users with the advantage of selecting the module or modules closest to their interest or work.  The modules are delivered both in html and pdf format.  The pdf format can be downloaded and printed.  The full book can also be downloaded.  In this version, hyperlinks between modules are included to promote cross-referencing throughout the Sourcebook.

The strategic guidelines of Europe 2020 put particular emphasis in strengthening horizontal cooperation and the sharing of experience and good practice among the Member States. It’s really crucial for education to fulfil its role in the knowledge triangle, research and innovation objectives and outcomes need to feed back into education, with teaching and learning underpinned by a strong research base, and with teaching and learning environments developed and improved through greater incorporation of creative thinking and innovative attitudes and approaches. Additionally there is a mainstream of eLearning in national policies for the modernisation of education and training, including in curricula, assessment of learning outcomes and the professional development of teachers and trainers.


According to the OECD survey, teachers have few incentives to improve their teaching, as while the most common types of professional development activity available to them are not the most effective. The majority of teachers would like more professional development (particularly on ICT skills, and student behaviour). It has to be mentioned that education and training play a fundamental role in achieving the ‘Europe 2020’ objectives.


All the above create a great deal of activity to ensure basic ICT skills as part of digital competence and learning to learn skills. Current developments in ICT and Web 2.0 technologies have offered the potential for new services, which has significantly transformed our day-to-day personal and professional activities; bare the potential to do the same for education and training. Known as ICT learning, using such technologies can be as simple as accessing a training timetable online, through very complex as developing virtual communities of practice for sharing and creating knowledge.
