Q&A With Sir Ken Robinson

Q&A With Sir Ken Robinson | Aprendizaje y redes abiertas. | Scoop.it
Sir Ken Robinson shares his thoughts on student engagement and testing, the future of teacher education programs, and why vocational education matters.
Miguel Zapata-Ros's insight:

Don't Dissect a Frog, Build One

On April 11, 1970, Seymour Papert held a symposium at MIT called "Teaching Children Thinking" and placed a new stake in the groundwork of epistemology. His notion was based on using computers as engines which children would teach and thus learn by teaching. He moved the locus of interest from how computers can teach to how children learn. This astonishingly simple idea simmered for almost fifteen years before it came to life through PCs. Today, when almost 30 percent of all American homes contain a personal computer, the idea really has come into its time.

Why Math Might Be The Secret To School Success

Why Math Might Be The Secret To School Success | Aprendizaje y redes abiertas. | Scoop.it
A new study is focusing on what works best to prepare kids for school. Math may be what really counts, say researchers, one of who describes it as "a lever to improve outcomes for kids longer term."
Miguel Zapata-Ros's insight:

Altmetrics – a complement to conventional metrics

Emerging metrics based on article-level does not exclude traditional metrics based on citations to the journal, but complements them. Both canbe employed in conjunction to offer a richer picture of an article use from immediate to long terms.

Miguel Zapata-Ros's insight:

An Affective Model of Interplay between Emotions and Learning: Reengineering Educational Pedagogy-Building a Learning Companion

An Affective Model of Interplay between Emotions and Learning: Reengineering Educational Pedagogy-Building a Learning Companion | Aprendizaje y redes abiertas. | Scoop.it
Abstract: There is an interplay between emotions and learning, but this interaction is far more complex than previous theories have articulated. This article proffers a novel model by which to: 1). regard the interplay of emotions upon learning for, 2). the larger practical aim of crafting computer-based models that will recognize a learner's affective state and respond appropriately to it so that learning will proceed at an optimal pace.

This is how scaffolding in education works - Daily Genius

This is how scaffolding in education works - Daily Genius | Aprendizaje y redes abiertas. | Scoop.it
How do you learn? How do you leverage your current understanding to grasp new concepts? That’s the idea behind scaffolding education which, to be honest, is a fancy term for deeper learning. It’s a term that prompts me to visualize a ladder or that crazy scaffolding you see around buildings. Scaffolding is one of the …

Organizations Around the World Denounce Elsevier’s New Policy That Impedes Open Access and Sharing | Association of Research Libraries® | ARL® | Aprendizaje y redes abiertas. | Scoop.it
On April 30, 2015, Elsevier announced a new sharing and hosting policy for Elsevier journal articles. This policy represents a significant obstacle to the dissemination and use of research knowledge, and creates unnecessary barriers for Elsevier published authors in complying with funders’ open access policies. In addition, the policy has been adopted without any evidence that immediate sharing of articles has a negative impact on publishers subscriptions...
Miguel Zapata-Ros's insight:

El marketing del open access de Elsevier es el realidad una política anti open access: Aumenta el periodo de embargo, impide la obra derivada y la difusión no comercial, etc.

Ludwig Wittgenstein finished writing the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, the achievement for which most of us remember him, in 1918; three years later came its first publication in Germany. And to what problem did Wittgenstein put his luminous philosophical mind in the interim?
