How To Capture Ideas at Presentations and Events by Doing Visual Recording on the iPad

Robin Good: Rachel Smith explains in very simple words how you can use your iPad to capture and record visually the key ideas and concepts presented during a lecture, keynote, training class or presentation.

She provides a good round-up of four relevant tools that can be used for this task, analyzing their key pros and cons as well as providing logistic and technical advice on how to best organize and setup yourself for doing visual recording on the iPad.

As similar tools will provide more ready-made icons, templates and patterns available for this kind of real-time idea-capturing, this rare and pioneering visual recording work will begin to catch up even more rapidly.

Many of the “Top 12” articles identified strategies for making student thinking visible not to just instructors, but also to their own learning processes. By intentionally uncovering how learners were thinking about discipline-specific concepts, students and instructors were able to discuss the ways in which this thinking was similar or different to the thinking of disciplinary experts.  Contemplating the epistemological question of “how do we know what we know?” brought novice thinking into contact with more sophisticated, expert ways of thinking within the discipline.

Un equipo liderado por el profesor de Psicología Ian Spence en la Universidad de Toronto (Canadá) ha demostrado que jugar a un videojuego de acción, incluso durante un período de tiempo corto, provoca cambios en la actividad cerebral y mejora la atención visual. El trabajo se publica en la revista Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience.Para llegar a esta conclusión, 25 sujetos que nunca habían manejado videojuegos pasaron 10 horas en sesiones de una o dos horas jugando con una consola, bien a un juego en el que debían disparar (16) o bien a un puzzle tridimensional (9). Antes y después se registraron sus ondas cerebrales. Los sujetos que manejaron el videojuego de acción mostraban una mejora evidente en la capacidad de atención visual y cambios en las ondas cerebrales vinculados a la capacidad de suprimir información que distrae. Los que jugaban con puzzles en la pantalla no experimentaron cambios cerebrales. Se trata de la primera vez que un estudio demuestra que los videojuegos causan cambios directos en el órgano pensante (y no que diferencias previas nos impulsan a jugar más o menos delante de una pantalla, como apuntaban investigaciones anteriores).

To do this your students should have a mobile blogging application on their iOS and Android devices.
