EDUCAUSE Sprint 2013 | EDUCAUSE.edu

Join us July 30–August 1 for a free, online program of webinars, activities, resources, and discussions focused on the transformative elements of MOOCs—connectedness, scale, data, and new models—and IT’s role.

Large-scale online learning is reshaping pedagogy, delivery systems, business models, and credentialing—challenging what it means to be a college or university. The transformation is connecting students, faculty, and institutions in new ways.

During the 3-day EDUCAUSE Sprint, we will explore the changes this emerging connected age has for infrastructure, platforms, teaching and learning, analytics, student support, and business models.

Finally. Office 365 is available for the iPhone, lets you edit any Word, Excel and PowerPoint file | Aprendiendo a Distancia | Scoop.it

"

It’s finally happened. After so many years of speculation, an official app featuring all of Microsoft’s popular Office applications is available for the iPhone.

It’s called ‘Office Mobile for Office 365 subscribers’, which is hardly the most attractive name, but a little besides the point at this stage. For iOS users with an active Office 365 subscription, it means they can access, view and edit any file previously saved in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Powerpoint.

Congressional panel hears criticism of 'broken' accreditation system | Inside Higher Ed

Congressional panel hears criticism of 'broken' accreditation system | Inside Higher Ed | Aprendiendo a Distancia | Scoop.it

WASHINGTON -- To hear members of Congress tell it, reauthorizing the Higher Education Act is looming on the near horizon of the legislative agenda -- even though most others here consider it a mirage that’s still years away. But when lawmakers do sit down to rewrite the law governing financial aid programs, accreditation will be under a particularly harsh spotlight.

That was clear at a hearing Thursday of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce’s subcommittee on higher education and workforce training, where a panel featured two representatives of accrediting agencies and two critics of traditional accreditation.

The Evolution of Classroom Technology - Edudemic

The Evolution of Classroom Technology - Edudemic | Aprendiendo a Distancia | Scoop.it

We’ve certainly come a long way but some things seem hauntingly similar to many years ago. For example, Thomas Edison said in 1925 that “books will soon be obsolete in schools. Scholars will soon be instructed through the eye.” I’m pretty sure this is exactly what people are saying these days about the iPad.

Interesting to listen to B.F. Skinner talk about the machine for learning. He talks about the student moving at "his" own pace. This is, no surprise, the differentiated or Mass Customized Learning precursor.

7 ways to teach digital literacy skills

7 ways to teach digital literacy skills | Aprendiendo a Distancia | Scoop.it

"Fostering digital literacy skills is one of the most difficult tasks for educators. Evaluating and analyzing online resources for accuracy is something that many adults struggle with – we’ve all been bamboozled before, haven’t we? But digital literacy is more than just determining if something is true or false – it’s intelligently and responsibly navigating online, it’s putting countless pieces together to form a puzzle, it’s determining what’s important and evaluating bias, etc – the list goes on. So, as an educator, how do we reinforce these crucial skills in our classrooms?"

This is so important for students to learn about, especially fake websites. One that wasn't mentioned that I like to use is the one about the California velcro crop being damaged. http://www.umbachconsulting.com/miscellany/velcro.html

The Importance of Relevancy in Improving Student Engagement and Learning | Faculty Focus

The Importance of Relevancy in Improving Student Engagement and Learning | Faculty Focus | Aprendiendo a Distancia | Scoop.it

For more than nine years, I have been deeply interested in metacognition as it applies to the art and science of teaching. I have also been involved in taking non-professional teachers and training them to be both content area experts and more than adequate teachers in the classroom. This can be a tough endeavor as people like to teach in non-traditional schools for a variety of reasons and some are not always interested in becoming teachers qua teachers. Worse are those who feel being a subject matter expert is enough because as long as they’re talking, the students must be learning, right?
