Implementation of LMS in a large organization: Critical factors for acceptance

Implementation of LMS in a large organization: Critical factors for acceptance | Aprendiendo a Distancia | Scoop.it

Most organizations that are serious about training and learning are also serious about Learning Management System. While initially, LMS were put up in place to deliver selected online courses, the trend now is to create a common consolidated platform to manage all training and learning initiatives across an organization.

For a large organization, the learning management system manages, delivers and tracks online learning as well as instructor-led classroom trainings. Since an enterprise-wide LMS implementation involves substantial investments, a positive ROI is what all organizations aspire for – and this is achieved only when the LMS is accepted across enterprise. Here are a few ways to encourage LMS adoption across organization.

Will MOOCs Undermine Top Business Schools, or Help Them? – Wired Campus - Blogs - The Chronicle of Higher Education | Aprendiendo a Distancia | Scoop.it

Massive open online courses are not currently cannibalizing tuition-based programs at top business schools, according to an enthusiastic report from the University of Pennsylvania. Rather, MOOCs could become a recruiting tool for tapping new pools of potential students.

Business schools that offer MOOCs should also figure out how to charge the many students who sign up for the online courses without intending to complete them, write the authors of the report.

[Slideshare] Preparing for the impact of Web 3.0

A lot of talk about the future of the internet sounds almost hippie-spiritual or faux-philosophical. The Internet is not the same as the world-wide-web. But the Internet-of-Things and the Semantic Web - all parts of Web 3.0, are beginning to be very important to our learning environments. Here is a summary of key features, ranging from access, creativity, and information architecture.

CUNY-New York State Initiative on Emergent Bilinguals – Our Vision

CUNY-New York State Initiative on Emergent Bilinguals – Our Vision | Aprendiendo a Distancia | Scoop.it

CUNY-NYSIEB focuses on improving the education of emergent bilingual students in New York State. These students are often referred to as English Language Learners. In New York State they are designated as such by the Language Assessment Battery-Revised (LAB-R) initially, and the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT) thereafter.

We refer to these students as emergent bilinguals because, in learning English, they are becoming bilingual and thus joining the growing ranks of American bilinguals in New York State and elsewhere. We consider bilingualism as the desired norm for all American students and not as the exceptional quality of a few. That is, we view bilingualism and biliteracy as an asset that all students in New York State should possess to meet the demands of the 21st century. Furthermore, our use of the term emergent bilinguals conceptualizes these students as much more than learners of English only, since they are developing proficiency and literacy in academic English from the base of home language practices. Furthermore, the term emergent bilinguals acknowledges that the education of these students must go beyond simply English language learning, to include a challenging curriculum in the content areas that also meets their social and emotional needs.

U.S. releases data on distance education enrollments @insidehighered

U.S. releases data on distance education enrollments @insidehighered | Aprendiendo a Distancia | Scoop.it

In 2012, most students preferred to do their online study at an institution in their home state. Undergraduate students at historically black colleges and universities were more likely to complete part of their education online than were students in general. West Virginia was the only state where students taking face-to-face courses didn’t make up at least half of the total student body.

These and other data points are now available for analysis from the National Center for Education Statistics, which on Monday released the clearest breakdown of students enrolled in distance education courses in the United States to date.

The statistics themselves are not new, but the findings according to region, sector and state are. The NCES, a part of the U.S. Department of Education, maintains the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, which collects data from the institutions eligible for Title IV financial aid. In 2012, the system for the first time asked colleges and universities about online enrollment, and earlier this year, the center began to tease preliminary data.

Competency-Based Education Programs versus Traditional Data Management (EDUCAUSE Review) | EDUCAUSE.edu

Competency-Based Education Programs versus Traditional Data Management (EDUCAUSE Review) | EDUCAUSE.edu | Aprendiendo a Distancia | Scoop.it
Key Takeaways
  • Competency-based education programs challenge traditional data management approaches across the academic institution because they defy conventional notions of time in relation to fixed-length terms, synchronous delivery, and student-faculty interactions.
  • Initial results from a study of colleges implementing CBE highlight short- and long-term solutions to timing challenges and emerging practices that can help ensure CBE program success.
  • Among the "not so bad" practices were to ensure that short-term fixes don't delay work on long-term solutions to CBE challenges and that key stakeholders be enlisted to support the required policy, practice, and system changes.

In the future, education will aim to learn the art of filter . No need to show where Kathmandu is or who was the first King of France, because that is everywhere.

ProfeRed's curator insight, June 3, 2014 10:41 PM
