Dorothy Retha Cook's curator insight, December 11, 2015 5:10 AM

There is a difference in learning and sharing, we can share some things we are not able to learn. As slaves couldn't read words but they taught the ways of their lives required to be lived instead! As grandma would say having all the book sense with no good common sense don't amount to nothing. Knowing how go read a book about how to change a light bulb but having no good common sense on how to perform it makes you a person with plenty of book sense sitting on the dark at night because you don't have the good common sense on how to do what the book said. Grandma and them had a way about telling the truth as it was said if you don't want to know the truth Grandma and them style don't ask them! Learning comes in different ways not all work the same! Don't judge another because they learn differently but always remember

what doesn't work for you just might work fine for another!

It's well worth sharing for those who aren't connected well with other educators or organizations.  I strongly agree with all of the 10 points in the Sketchnote. Once…

[ePaper] Web Literacy 2.0

[ePaper] Web Literacy 2.0 | Aprendiendo a Distancia | Scoop.it
This paper captures the evolution of the Mozilla Web Literacy Map to reach and meet the growing number of diverse audiences using the web. The paper represents the thinking, research findings, and next iteration of the Web Literacy Map that embraces 21st Century Skills (21C Skills) as key to leadership development.

As technology becomes more ubiquitous, and more people come online, Mozilla continues to refine its strategies to support and champion the web as an open and public resource. To help people become good citizens of the web, Mozilla focuses on the following goals: 1) develop more educators, advocates, and community leaders who can leverage and advance the web as an open and public resource, and 2) impact policies and practices to ensure the web remains a healthy open and public resource for all. In order to accomplish this, we need to provide people with open access to the skills and know-how needed to use the web to improve their lives, careers, and organizations.

Knowing how to read, write, and participate in the digital world has become the 4th basic foundational skill next to the three Rs—reading, writing, and arithmetic—in a rapidly evolving, networked world. Having these skills on the web expands access and opportunity for more people to learn anytime, anywhere, at any pace. Combined with 21C leadership Skills (i.e. critical thinking, collaboration, problem solving, creativity, communication), these digital-age skills help us live and work in today’s world. Whether you’re a first time smartphone user, an educator, an experienced programmer, or an internet activist, the degree to which you can read, write, and participate on the web while producing, synthesizing, evaluating, and communicating information shapes what you can imagine—and what you can do. follows:

We have hugely underestimated people’s need for social connection at work

We have hugely underestimated people’s need for social connection at work | Aprendiendo a Distancia | Scoop.it
Why is social rejection painful?

Why have we evolved to find social exclusion painful? What purpose does it serve? We are mammals and through our first few days and years of life we would not survive if there wasn’t someone taking care of us and providing food, shelter and warmth. As babies we are acutely aware of the need for protection by others. This need stays with us throughout life, albeit less overtly.

Social Cconnection is part of the SPACES model (Self-esteem, Purpose, Autonomy, Certainty, Equity and Social Connection) as outlined in the last article. Causing us to want to be part of the group, is one of the brain’s methods of protecting us.

Neuroscience shows that our brains are very sensitive to rejection.
Back out on the savannah we were far more likely to survive if we were part of a tribe than trying to fend for ourselves.
