Dr. Warren Wiechmann, Dean of Instructional Technology at UCI Irvine delivered a powerful message to the Advanced Science and Engineering Students at Fairmont Preparatory Academy on Friday May 16, 2014. The message was simple yet profound - “The future is now.” This message was at the heart of a presentation delivered by Dr. Warren Wiechmann. Dr. Wiechmann is a UC Irvine emergency medical physician who spearheaded the School of Medicine's innovative iPad program known as iMedEd. Last week UCI SOM announced that they will be doing a pilot that integrates Google Glass into the curriculum, an initiative also spearheaded by Dr. Wiechmann.
Dr. Wiechmann highlighted a key idea in his presentation about today’s changing world – how people access information. According to his research 35% of individuals go online to figure out a medical condition.
This reinforces a key idea that we discuss on a regular basis about the importance of teaching students how to navigate a world that has an abundance of information.
