One of the greatest marketing challenges facing app developers is being discovered, i.e. breaking through app store congestion and in front of user eyeballs. With Google Play and App Store now reporting over 1.3 millions listed apps, browsing through these is ineffective, if at all possible.  It’s a jungle out there. Let's see the alternative options.

BTW just checked iBeacon in use on Apple Store 5th avenue, had to ask 5 sales rep so they can demo it, try two different tables to ..... receive a notification... The whole experience took a good 20 mn to figure it out. Yes it is on the way but tuning still required ;).

On est bien d'accord. La technologie n'est pas une fin en soi. Elle doit être au service d'un concept marketing qui, lui même, doit apporter un service au consommateur.

Il faut lui donner envie de télécharger l'application et de l'utiliser. Ensuite seulement, on pourra interagir avec lui via le Beacon.

 

Encore faut-il qu'il ait la bonne version de smartphone (20% du parc aujourd'hui) et qu'il ait rendu actif son bluetooth (grande inconnue !).
Empiriquement, on peut penser que la moitié sont prêts à communiquer avec le Beacon, soit seulement 10% des détenteurs de smartphones. Comme nous sommes 6 français sur 10 à avoir un smartphone, on tombe à une cible avec qui communiquer de 6%.

Est-ce bien raisonnable de se précipiter sur cette technologie ?

- ne pas oublier le reach final : le BLE ne touche pas assez de monde

- ne pas oublier l'usage : l'outil n'est rien sans le service et beaucoup, beacoup de trafic sur l'application mobile ou la webapp compatible...

In 2013, mobile Apps that mimicked the in-store experience were seen in many mobile initiatives launched over the course of the year, such as animated print campaigns, virtual test drives or digitally envisioned outfits. As consumer trends continue the shift toward mobile, this emphasis on blurring boundaries will remain an important factor in apps developed in the year to come.
