In schools across Australia there is strong support for linking learning in Technologies with learning literacy skills. Learning in Technologies places a high priority on accurate and unambiguous communication (ACARA, 2013).Implementing digital technologies in learning areas such as English allows special education teachers to facilitate and accommodate the learning needs of students. This is achieved through integrating assistive devices such as the iPad and its applications to develop critical literacy skills needed in the 21st century.  Consequently special education teacher have a better opportunity to develop important General capabilities such as literacy (LIT) to allows student to become literate as they develop the knowledge, skills and dispositions to interpret and use language confidently for learning and communicating in and out of school and for participating effectively in society (ACARA, 2013).

This website suggests various applications that can be used on the ipad to assist special needs students. The list of  applications were selected to improve and develop students reading, writing and spelling. They engage the students through making the activities, fun and engaging, which I think is important when teaching special needs students.

The Best Language Learning Apps For 2015 - Te@chThought

The Best Language Learning Apps For 2015 - Te@chThought | Apps for Little Learners | Scoop.it

 - TeachThoughtSkills like vocabulary and foreign language speaking are right in the sweet spot of what unattended and automated–often considered the very worst kind–can do.

But it needn’t be that way. Handing a student a tablet as they practice basic skills with an app–especially one with adaptive design–is a perfectly legitimate use of edtech as far as we’re concerned, and language learning is very much a part of that.

So with that in mind are ten of the best language learning apps for 2015, updated to include those with social dynamics, like HelloTalk, recent entries like Rosetta Stone, and stalwart Duolingo. We’ve also made an effort to include multiple languages, including Mandarin, French, Spanish, and English.

It truly is a blessing to be alive! I am not a teacher /home school administrator anymore but a parent having to re learn things I once knew but in new ways. Thanks for all the shared informative education information it truly has and is a blessing, may God bless each and every one of you individually then collectively together for this great thing you have done for one of His least little ones me . I ask your prayers that I will be restored so I can teach my children in the manner that need be as special needs students sense my state of North Carolina Public Schools are depriving them of their human right to attend public school and they are receiving no education at all for several years now for 1 of them.  Again thank you

We will also allow them to take photos to document lessons and their learning that they can then use at the end of the week to aid them in writing a blog post about what the class learned over the week. In order to make the most of these photos, we are going to teach them to use a few of the photo apps we have available to us on our class iPads."

That is quite a hefty question too. There are over 90,000 iOS apps in the Education category of the App Store. Since apps that teachers can use fall into other categories too, the number of choices is well above 100,000. Does your head hurt yet?"

It is not the product/tool that determines if it ought to be added. What/how does it comlement ans supplement waht the teacher is trying to accomplish with each student. So i woud train the teacher in a few of these and leave it up to her.

They are also mobile, can offer data, and can be played at school or home, making them useful in a K-12 blended learning or flipped classroom setting.

With this kind of flexible utility in mind, it’s no wonder they’re in such high demand–so here are 44 education apps for K-6 students doing the best kind of learning math teachers hate and English-Language Arts teachers love: open-ended learning."
