Apps that rise to the top: Tested and approved by teachers - Mind/Shift

Apps that rise to the top: Tested and approved by teachers - Mind/Shift | K-12 Mobile Learning | Scoop.it
With the thousands of educational apps vying for the attention of busy teachers, it can be hard to sift for the gold. Michelle Luhtala, a savvy librarian from New Canaan High School in Connecticut has crowd-sourced the best, most extensive list of appsvoted on by educators around the country. “I wanted to make sure we had some flexibility because there’s no one app that’s better than all the others,” Luhtala said. Some apps are best for younger students, others are more complicated, better suited for high school students. Many apps do one thing really well, but aren’t great at everything. Still others are bought, redesigned or just disappear — so it’s always good to know about an array of tools to suit the need at hand.

Why your wallpapers look messed up on iOS 7, and how to fix them!

Why your wallpapers look messed up on iOS 7, and how to fix them! | K-12 Mobile Learning | Scoop.it
“One of the things that's annoyed me most about iOS 7 is the way it handles wallpapers. iOS 7 only seems to want to position a background image one way, and no matter how hard you try, no matter how much you pinch or zoom, iOS 7 just snaps you wallpaper back in and, in some cases, makes it look ridiculous. So, I did some digging, and figured out why iOS 7 is messing up our wallpapers,...”

I interviewed the CEO upon ClasKick's launch. It looks like a great tool but it still only works on iPads, which makes its utility limited to iPAd 1-1 schools. You can hear the interview at: http://podcast.concordiashanghai.org/blog/2014/09/19/interview-42-andrew-rowland-classkick/

This looks like an interesting tool for giving immediate feedback on class work. I can see this being useful in a flipped class environment.

This is a great 'connector' between students, teachers, and tech!

Trisha Collins's curator insight, June 19, 2014 7:33 PM

Too often the word on the street is “my school or class has new iPads but we don’t know what to do with them.” The best part about these devices is that they get the learning into the actual hands of students- make learning “hands-on.” That is NOT a new concept. Dewey, Montessori, David Kolb knew this long before the digital age- constructivism is one of the most effective ways to learn anything.
