It’s fun and exciting and challenging as Monty the mouse heads out into the world on his never ending quest for cheese!

This is the follow up to the hugely successful Monty’s Quest which is being used in thousands of schools and homes in the UK, USA, Australia and lots of other countries.

The aim of the game:
You will be shown a calculation to work out and if you get the calculation correct, Monty will take a step towards the top of the hill to claim his cheese. If you take too long to answer the question, Monty will slide back down the hill towards the bottom again!

Levels of difficulty:
Practice – practice the multiplication table of your choice and during the game, Monty will NOT slide back down the hill – so you can take your time a little more without penalty.

Beginner – choose the multiplication table you would like to work with and the slide speed is set to very slow.

Intermediate – the slide speed is set to medium on this level.

Expert – this is the ultimate level for multiplication fans. Can you get to the top of the hill and achieve a perfect score?

Stars to collect:
On each level, there are 3 stars to collect! Depending on how quickly you answer and how accurate your answers are, Monty will receive stars at the end of each level.

Can you master all of the levels and collect 3 stars on all of Monty’s Ultimate Quest

A Montessori Approach to learning about prehistoric animals.

Lessons
In Lesson #1 learn about 18 different Dinosaurs including Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptor and Stegosaurus. Explore each dinosaur learning about their name meaning, pronunciation, size, food, fossil locations and other basic information.

Next in Lesson #2 learn about different parts of dinosaurs with an interactive teaching method.
Touch a dinosaur part in the photo-strip to change the featured dinosaur part on the page. Touch the speaker button to hear the correct pronunciation of the dinosaur part and touch the location button to see the dinosaur part highlighted on the diagram!

Activity Set 1
In Activity Level #1 & #2 assemble the dinosaur puzzles with pieces that are based on popular physical Montessori materials:

In the first dinosaur puzzle lesson, children have to look for the dinosaur puzzle piece that is blinking on the diagram. When they touch the correct piece it will move into position on the diagram and the name of the part can be heard aloud.

In the second dinosaur puzzle lesson, children have to look for the dinosaur puzzle piece that corresponds to the name shown at the top. For children who cannot read, the plant part name at the top can be touched to hear the name aloud for them to know which one to look for.

Also included is a sorting activity to identify different examples of dinosaurs.

This Montessori application was co-developed and approved by an AMI certified, Montessori teacher with over forty years experience educating children!

We sincerely thank you for your support of our Montessori applications and hope you enjoy this one!

a4cwsn's insight:

The visual activity scheduler for visual learners.

Many special needs classrooms, living environments and therapy centers use some form of pictograms to help children visualize the tasks, activities and chores that make up their daily lives. Additionally, many special needs children have difficulty with transitions – managing the jump from one activity to the next. PictoPie is meant to assist them in a visual way, making use of simple drag and drop functionality so they can see what is in store for them during the course of their day, a visual timer to allow them to see how much longer they have for a particular activity and a two-minute warning to prepare them for the new transition. Included is a visual timer showing the children how many minutes remain in their current activity.

Smart Balloons: Learning to Write

Smart Balloons: Learning to Write | Apps for Children with Special Needs | Scoop.it
a4cwsn's insight:

Writing is one of the basic activities which children learn after entering school. In their exercise books and under the teacher’s supervision, they train lines, arcs, loops and many other graphomotor elements.

Although the iPad cannot teach your child the correct pencil grip or body posture, it can be a very good tool for training the shapes used in learning to write. By “finger writing”, the brain activates the same centers the child uses when writing with a pencil.

Little Digits | Apps For Children with Special Needs

Little Digits | Apps For Children with Special Needs | Apps for Children with Special Needs | Scoop.it

Little Digits is a fun educational app that teaches children about numbers by putting a new spin on finger counting.

Using the iPad multi-touch screen, Little Digits displays number characters by detecting how many fingers you put down. Children can learn to associate the number on the screen with the number of fingers they place down, whilst enjoying the unique characters and animations of the Little Digits world.

There are also games that introduce small addition and subtraction calculations, where you can work out the answer using the same multi-touch finger detection.

This is an app that will grow with your child’s numerical understanding. Not only can they discover numbers through initial independent play, you can also play collaboratively with your child, each putting fingers down to count and work out calculations together. Then when your child is ready, they can work out the answers for themselves, using their own little digits!

Sorting for Early Science

Sorting for Early Science | Apps for Children with Special Needs | Scoop.it
Sorting for Early Science is a fun educational app for use in schools or at [...]
a4cwsn's insight:

Sorting for Early Science is a fun educational app for use in schools or at home. It builds on children’s natural curiosity for objects and animals in the world around them. Is a pear a fruit of a vegetable? Does a penguin have wings?

Having the ability to classify, or sort, items is an important scientific skill specified in the early years curriculum. This colourful, fun app helps children develop this ability, whether they are working alone or in small groups. It provokes lively classroom discussion, with children asking each other if they have seen a bat.or working out how to tell a fruit from a vegetable.
Children classify items according to whether they are:
•Animals or Plants
•Types of Animals
•Animals with Wings or No Wings
•Number of Legs
•Fruit or Vegetable
•Living or Not Living
This is done by dragging objects from the top of the screen into one of the labelled circles on the screen. For some topics, there are overlapping circles for items that can go into more than one circle. There is a reporting option to allow adults to monitor the progress of children. Children can build their basic vocabulary, either in English, or in Spanish as the app can be switched between both languages.

Sorting is part of a series of science activities which have been developed with consideration to follow the guidelines of the National Curriculum in the UK, and the Common Core Curriculum in the United States.

Sorting has been created by Storm Educational, who have over 20 years experience of creating educational software for schools around the world. Our software is detailed on the Storm website at www.stormeducational.co.uk, and more science fun can be found on the We Love Science!

Yummiloo: Rainbow Power

Yummiloo: Rainbow Power | Apps for Children with Special Needs | Scoop.it
a4cwsn's insight:

Welcome to Yummiloo, a food-filled paradise! The Yum Yums are headed to their annual carnival, but the Rainbow Machine which powers the carnival is empty. Help Rooty and the other Yum Yums harvest as many different colored fruits and vegetables as possible to power up the Rainbow Machine and begin the carnival.

In this educational app “playing with your food” will take on a whole new meaning as kids learn the basics of food identification and nutritional curriculum through a fun and engaging game. After being introduced to the Yum Yums, users are instructed to gather fruits and vegetables by dragging them into the corresponding colored bucket to help fuel the Rainbow Machine. Little ones are also provided with a compost bin for spoiled foods, making room for more fresh foods to grow once the rotten ones are removed. Once all five colored carts are filled with food the Rainbow Machine is able to run on full power, unleashing the carnival rides and a Yum Yum party. The celebratory end of the game reinforces the importance of ‘eating a rainbow,’ educating kids about how eating a mix of bright, vibrant colored foods help their bodies grow.

Letter Tracking

Letter Tracking | Apps for Children with Special Needs | Scoop.it
a4cwsn's insight:

This app has been written in conjunction with pediatric occupational therapists who work in schools and clinics with children who often struggle with reading. One of their main difficulties is seen during reading or when they have to answer questions based on a passage they have read. It has been found that because they struggle with tracking they are unable to answer the questions or complete the task without fatigue to their eyes.

Tracking skills, or the ability to control the fine eye movements required to follow a line of print, are really important in reading. Children with tracking problems will often lose their place, skip or transpose words, and have difficulty understanding because of struggling to move their eyes accurately. Many are forced to use their fingers to follow the line because their eyes can’t.
