Touch and Write Storybook: 3 Bears

Touch and Write Storybook: 3 Bears | Apps for Children with Special Needs | Scoop.it

a4cwsn's insight:

Children love “Touch and Write” – now, there’s “Touch and Write Storybook”!

“Touch and Write Storybook” was designed by classroom teachers and it is unique: on each page of the story, children master the story vocabulary using our engaging “Touch and Write” reading and writing activities. By the end of the story, children will have mastered almost 200 important vocabulary words, and learned the phonics pronunciations of each word’s letters!

In the Writing Room, children write the words from the current page of the story using fun textures like shaving cream, ketchup or jello. They learn the phonics pronunciation of each word’s letters as they write. In the Reading Room, children master reading these vocabulary words by following directions and giving the correct words to Goldilocks, Papa, Mama or Baby Bear.

In addition, “Touch and Write Storybook” includes the interactive features you expect: children can listen to the lines of the story as they are highlighted, children can tap and hear individual words, and children can tap around the illustration to learn new vocabulary. They can also take Papa’s Quiz by reading Papa’s word and tapping the correct part of the illustration. The storybook includes both “Read to Me” and “Read Myself” modes.

Just for fun, four interaction pages are spaced throughout the story. Help Goldilocks knock on the door – but watch out for characters from the wrong story! Help Goldilocks eat up her porridge – better blow on it to let it cool! Help Goldilocks rock in her rocking chair – can you rock her just right? And help Goldilocks test the beds – the sounds will tell you if a bed is too hard, too soft, or just right!

Prepare your child to become a strong reader and writer – the “Touch and Write” way!

“So much information in one amazing app, if you want to increase your knowledge of Africa and the animals that live there then this is the app for you, A4cwsn”

Introducing the first in a series of apps that will help children and adults learn about the animals of each continent and help raise awareness of endangered species!

This app features the animals of Africa. You will learn where each animal lives on the African continent, several facts about each animal, and their current conservation status.

Lesson #1 contains the Information Center with all the facts:

Touch an animal in the photo-strip to change the featured animal on the page. Touch the Map button to see the animal’s habitat highlighted on the map. Touch the Speaker button to hear the correct pronunciation of the animal name. Touch the Definition button to see and hear a detailed description of the animal as well as the Animal Facts box, containing dimensions, weight and conservation information. A list of Conservation definitions can be seen by touching the button on the top bar.

In Lessons #2 & #3 assemble the African Habitat maps by finding the animal prompted by the shown habitat or name. This activity expands the Continent Box activity found in the Montessori classrooms

In the first habitat map lesson children have to look for the animal that corresponds to the name shown at the top, as well as, the habitat shown on the map. When they touch the correct animal card, a representative animal shape will transfer to the map as the name of the animal is heard aloud.

In the second habitat map lesson children have to look for the animal that corresponds to the shown habitat only! This is more challenging, however, you will be pleasantly surprised how fast you will learn to memorize the animal habitats!

In Lesson #4 drag and place the animal puzzle pieces to the map. The locations correspond to their habitat and the name of the animal is heard aloud when it is placed correctly.

This Montessori application was co-developed and approved by an AMI certified, Montessori teacher with over forty years experience educating children!

We sincerely thank you for your downloads and suggestions!

This app begins a new series of Geography Apps for us! We sincerely thank you for your support of our other Montessori applications and hope you enjoy this one!

Sorting for Early Science

Sorting for Early Science | Apps for Children with Special Needs | Scoop.it
Sorting for Early Science is a fun educational app for use in schools or at [...]
a4cwsn's insight:

Sorting for Early Science is a fun educational app for use in schools or at home. It builds on children’s natural curiosity for objects and animals in the world around them. Is a pear a fruit of a vegetable? Does a penguin have wings?

Having the ability to classify, or sort, items is an important scientific skill specified in the early years curriculum. This colourful, fun app helps children develop this ability, whether they are working alone or in small groups. It provokes lively classroom discussion, with children asking each other if they have seen a bat.or working out how to tell a fruit from a vegetable.
Children classify items according to whether they are:
•Animals or Plants
•Types of Animals
•Animals with Wings or No Wings
•Number of Legs
•Fruit or Vegetable
•Living or Not Living
This is done by dragging objects from the top of the screen into one of the labelled circles on the screen. For some topics, there are overlapping circles for items that can go into more than one circle. There is a reporting option to allow adults to monitor the progress of children. Children can build their basic vocabulary, either in English, or in Spanish as the app can be switched between both languages.

Sorting is part of a series of science activities which have been developed with consideration to follow the guidelines of the National Curriculum in the UK, and the Common Core Curriculum in the United States.

Sorting has been created by Storm Educational, who have over 20 years experience of creating educational software for schools around the world. Our software is detailed on the Storm website at www.stormeducational.co.uk, and more science fun can be found on the We Love Science!
