Android-Exploit schleust beliebige Apps ein | Mobile Security | CyberSecurity | Apps and Widgets for any use, mostly for education and FREE | Scoop.it

Of course, a marketplace as big and vibrant as Google Play changes quickly, so it's hard to pick out the trusted developers with so many up and comers. That's why we recommend installing security software on your Android device. Lookout has a strong offering, and I also recommend Editors' Choice winners Bitdefender Mobile Security and Antivirus and avast! Mobile Security & Antivirus. With one of these on your Android device, you'll be making it much harder for an attacker to get your personal information.

Disconnect Kids is a fun and unique educational app that teaches children (and their parents) about online privacy. Disconnect Kids also actively blocks requests for data about your web-browsing and in-app activity from the biggest mobile tracking services.

It’s the first (and only) iOS app that stops this personal data from ever leaving your device.

83% Of Mobile Apps Are Risky

83% Of Mobile Apps Are Risky | Apps and Widgets for any use, mostly for education and FREE | Scoop.it
Summer 2013 App Reputation Report to examine the hidden behaviors behind free and paid mobile apps

The cloud-based, fully automated Appthority App Risk Management Service performed static, dynamic and behavioral app analysis on the 400 most popular free and paid apps on the iOS and Android platforms.

Appthority analyzed each app for particular behaviors within a test environment

.

Highlights from the App Reputation Report are:

- Overall, 83% of the most popular apps are associated with security risks and privacy issues.

- iOS apps exhibited more risky behaviors than Android apps. 91% of iOS apps exhibit at least one risky behavior, as compared to 80% of Android apps.

- 95% of the top free apps and 77.5% of the top paid apps exhibited at least one risky behavior.

- 78% of the most popular free Android apps identify the user's ID (UDID).

- Even though Apple prohibits its developers from accessing the UDID, 5.5% of the tested iOS apps still do.

- 72% of the top free apps track for the user's location, compared to 41% of paid apps.

- Although paid apps already generate revenue when downloaded, 59% of paid iOS and 24% of paid Android apps still support in-app purchasing.

- Furthermore, 39% of paid iOS and 16% of paid Android apps still share data with ad networks.

Improved Simplocker variant hits Android users hard | Mobile Security | CyberSecurity | Apps | Apps and Widgets for any use, mostly for education and FREE | Scoop.it
The initial version used a unique encryption key for all victims, which allowed Avast to create a free removal tool for the unfortunate victims to use.

But that ship has now sailed, as Simplocker developers have upped the ante and the latest variant of the malware now encrypts files with a different key on each device.

According to Nikolaos Chrysaidos, Avast Android malware and security analyst, this new variant has already infected more than 5,000 unique users. They have been tricked into installing the malware by malicious ads on shady sites, as it poses as a Flash Player app.

A new report from security firm Avast out this morning reveals the discovery of a new form of malware on the Google Play store, which begins to display advertisements disguised as warning messages to end users when they unlock their Android smartphone. What’s interesting about this malware – or adware, as it’s better known – is that some of the applications where it was discovered already have a large number of installs. For instance, a card game app called Durak has 5 to 10 million installs according to the data on Google Play.

Explains Avast researcher Filip Chytry, the malware was first brought to the company’s attention by way of a comment on the Avast forums, and, initially, he didn’t think much of it.

Gust MEES's insight:

TrustGo Ad Detector scans and protects your phone from potential privacy violations and identity leaks through ads displayed by apps via the most commonly used advertising networks.

It is common for advertising networks to collect information on how you use your device. Your information is then used for targeted marketing campaigns.

Some common and aggressive methods include:
• Pushing ads to your Android notification bar
• Creating unauthorized shortcuts on your home screen
• Modifying the default browser, homepage and bookmarks settings
• Subscribing you to emails and text messages when an ad is clicked
• Making phone calls and downloading malicious files when an ad is clicked

F-Secure Lokki

F-Secure Lokki | Apps and Widgets for any use, mostly for education and FREE | Scoop.it
It’s about places, not about tracking

When we were building Lokki, we talked to countless people, teenagers, children and adults all over the world. Nobody really wants to be tracked — or track others. Thus, Lokki is about people, places and putting you in charge of your privacy.

Lokki sends you automatic notifications when family members or friends enter or exit certain places — but only if they decide to let you know. Plus you can hide your whereabouts whenever you want to go undercover, or just take a nap.
