Thx Ariana Amorim of Serious Play!
Follow this guide to coaching kids or people who "think in pictures" how to create picture-based notes and outlines. Kid brains remember better by starting with the picture for a story. . ***Read the text while they create pictures to tell it.
***They re-tell using their pictures.
***Analyze the accuracy to improve the image words of the story (if possible) or the power of the images.
Next time *** Divide the paper into number of topics
*** Picture for each topic
*** Re-tell & connect the pictures to create a branch from topic to topic
*** Add smaller sub branches with new pictures if needed
*** Re-tell
Advanced*** Recreate the pictures from memory

8 Critical Skills For A Modern Education

8 Critical Skills For A Modern Education | Education Matters | Scoop.it

Pearson sent us this report recently–Exploring the Learning Curve. The big idea here is the changing skill needs for students globally. It is based on this idea of an index–a Global Index of Cognitive Skills and Education Attainment. The report explains:

“The Global Index of Cognitive Skills and Educational Attainment compares the performance of 39 countries and one region (Hong Kong) on two categories of education: Cognitive Skills and Educational Attainment. The Index provides a snapshot of the relative performance of countries based on their education outputs.”

In short, it is formatted around 6 lessons and 8 skills. The lessons are shown below, the skills are identified in the graphic above.

6 Characteristics Of Tomorrow's Classroom Technology

6 Characteristics Of Tomorrow's Classroom Technology | Education Matters | Scoop.it
Predicting the growth of technology is impossible–in both rate and direction. The same likely applies to learning.

Combine them and you’ve got even greater uncertainty, but that’s what Michell Zappa and the folks over at Envisioningtech did in creating the following massive concept map. In the visual there are three distinct domains/learning spaces: Classroom, Studio, and Virtual. Within these domains are 6 sub-domains that represent both areas of growth and characteristics of how learning might change when fused with emerging technologies.

Shannon Mersand: 12 Questions (and Answers) about Makerspaces! | Education Matters | Scoop.it

“ What is needed to start a Makerspace in a classroom or school? Passion - You need to have passion and a belief in the educational value of maker-style projects. Space - This can be a whole room or only part of a room. Supplies - Start small with simple craft materials. Often sending a message out to colleagues and the community asking for donations of materials works well. Storage - Create a place to store materials when they are not in use and student projects as they are being worked on.”

How Metacognition Makes Students Better Learners

How Metacognition Makes Students Better Learners | Education Matters | Scoop.it
When students learn to reflect meaningfully about their learning, they can participate in a dialogue with the teacher that allows them to work together to determine the actual level of mastery. No longer working in isolation, the teacher can now adequately discuss depth of learning, thereby helping students to communicate particular knowledge that is too often absent from their final products. After students provide the teacher with thorough information about their process, the teacher is in a better position to assess student learning.

12 Rules Of Great Teaching -

12 Rules Of Great Teaching - | Education Matters | Scoop.it

Recently, I’ve been thinking of the universal truths in teaching. Students should be first. Don’t always start planning with a standard. Questions matter more than answers. Trust is a currency of a human classroom.

So I thought I’d gather twelve of them to start with. The idea of “good teaching” is an idea we get at a variety of different ways, So then, here are some rules we might consider when making sense of this idea of what makes a teacher great. Thanks to Sylvia Duckworth for the great illustration, who went all out and added all 15.

Infographics for teaching and learning

Infographics for teaching and learning  | Education Matters | Scoop.it
What are Infographics?

An infographic is a way to tell a story to an audience in a visual manner.  Infographics use data visualizations, charts, numbers, text, graphs and images all combined into one to the story

Why Infographics work for teaching and learning

There is a science behind infographics, but to keep things short a simple.  People are visual.  We process images and visualizations faster than reading text along. Picture Superiority Effect basically says that if we hear something, 3 days later we will be lucky to remember 10%.  This increase to 65% when pictures are added.

Revamping education for work: a life of learning

Revamping education for work: a life of learning | Education Matters | Scoop.it
Statistics show that the earlier a young person is exposed to a new skill like computer programming, the more likely they are to excel in it, and to consider pursuing it as a career. However, computer science education is not yet a mandatory part of the national school curriculum in many developed countries. Despite this, a growing number of regions, schools, educators and parents recognise that it is a critical skill their children need in order to succeed in a rapidly transforming and very digital world.
