Why MOOCs are Good for Teacher Professional Development

Why MOOCs are Good for Teacher Professional Development | Education Matters | Scoop.it

"While I am not a huge fan of MOOCs (See, MOOCs – The Opium of the Masses, I think that there is one area in which they might actually be extremely useful – ongoing teacher professional development (PD). They are a good fit to help meet a very specific need, which they could do quite well given teachers’ experience with education."

Lee Green's curator insight, May 22, 8:31 AM
I've had several teachers go through the How Things Work course through Coursera. They loved it. The feedback I received is the course was challenging it gave them resources they could immediately use in the classroom. They were also able to receive valuable professional development on their own time without missing instruction. There is nothing wrong with that!
Nicholas Pringle's curator insight, May 22, 9:43 AM

I think there is huge potential for MOOCs but teacher professional development is certainly an area where they will be highly useful.
