The development of critical literacy in students is a large part of the new Australian Curriculum. The 'flipped classroom' can really assist teachers in developing higher order thinking skills, ICT literacy, and Information literacy.

I've had several teachers go through the How Things Work course through Coursera. They loved it. The feedback I received is the course was challenging it gave them resources they could immediately use in the classroom. They were also able to receive valuable professional development on their own time without missing instruction. There is nothing wrong with that!

I think there is huge potential for MOOCs but teacher professional development is certainly an area where they will be highly useful. Delete the scoop?
