Katelyn 's insight:

This article raises a certain issue that some people may put off as unimportant. This organization is providing scholarships for those with type 1 diabetes who are also athletes at their college or university. Is it fair that the scholarship only goes to athletes with diabetes? In my opinion the answer would be no. There are many college students living with type 1 diabetes and many other diseases that take a lot of their time and money who need help funding for college so why are these specific students getting help?  I think it is important for there to be scholarships that aren’t bias toward a certain group.

Katelyn 's insight:

The information presented in this article lets people know the significance of applying for scholarships. It makes a good point that many of us should remember when it comes down to applying for scholarships. "Many times, departments within the college have scholarships to offer, but students aren’t informed about them and don’t know how to go about looking for them or even that they exist in some cases." It’s always a good idea to sign up for college scholarship search engines such as washboard to help aid you in the process.

Katelyn 's insight:

This article makes an interesting point that I have never even considered before. It basically states that the scholarships that colleges are giving to students are going to the wrong students. The students that need it the most are not receiving the scholarships. This is because the merit scholarships go out to the students who did very well on the SAT and it is a fact that students with a higher family income do better than the students with a lower family income. This means that students with the same potential but a lower family income aren't getting the same opportunities as others. I think this is important to realize so we can continue to make and provide scholarships that are equal to all students and give everyone the same opportunities.
