Pascual Pérez-Paredes's insight:
TAALES is a tool that meaures 104 classic and new indices of lexical sophistication, including indices of frequency, range, academic language, and psycholinguistic word information. Included are indices for both single words and n-grams. TAALES indices have been used to inform models of second language (L2) speaking proficiency, first language (L1) and L2 writing proficiency, genre differences, and satirical language.
TAALES takes plain text files as input (it will process all plain text files in a particular folder) and produces a comma separated values (.csv) spreadsheet that is easily read by any spreadsheet software.
Cognitive Load Theory builds upon the widely accepted model of human information processing shown in Figure 1 (this was published by Richard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin in 1968.)
It describes the process as having three main parts: sensory memory, working memory and long-term memory. Since then, many researchers have added to our understanding of this concept, but the basic model remains the same.

The Padagogy Wheel is designed to help educators think – systematically, coherently, and with a view to long term, big-picture outcomes – about how they use mobile apps in their teaching. The Padagogy Wheel is all about mindsets; it’s a way of thinking about digital-age education that meshes together concerns about mobile app features, learning transformation, motivation, cognitive development and long-term learning objectives.
The Padagogy Wheel, though, is not rocket science. It is an everyday device that can be readily used by everyday teachers; it can be applied to everything from curriculum planning and development, to writing learning objectives and designing centered activities. The idea is for the users to respond to the challenges that the Wheel presents for their teaching practices, and to ask themselves the tough questions about their choices and methods.
Recently there was, what could have been, a fairly benign thread posted on the Moodle forums about how to create more interactive lessons. JP, the thread originator, was simply looking for a way to bring a little more life to the Moodle experience.
As can be expected from the Moodle community, there were others who immediately dove in and offered help and ideas – specifically by looking at all of the features available in the lesson module. However, JP was looking for something even beyond this.
