This is a 1h23 video by Simon Wardley -- despite its length worth a watch.

Simon brings together the concept of value chain with evolution in his strategy mapping approach. This basically decomposes a company's elements of its value chain to help better understand where each component resides in the evolution. Based on that a more targetted strategy (where? why? what? how? when?) for each element can be devised. Also the right methodoloy can be chosen based on that mapping (eg, agile vs. sturdy or six sigma).

Other concepts and theories mentioned:

componentization (Simon Herbert), creative destruction (Joseph Schumpeter), Red Queen effect, punctuated equilibrium, peace/war wonder cycles (aka K-waves by Perez), innovate/leverage/commoditise, efficiency enables innovation on a higher-order of abstraction.
