Eric Holder's parting shot: It's too hard to bring civil rights cases | AP Government & Politics | Scoop.it
Attorney General Eric Holder plans to push, during his final weeks in office, a new standard of proof for civil-rights offenses, saying in an exit interview with POLITICO that such a change would make the federal government “a better backstop” against discrimination in cases like Ferguson and Trayvon Martin. In a lengthy discussion ranging...

White House, DHS caught off guard by House's funding failure | AP Government & Politics | Scoop.it
The White House and the Department of Homeland Security were caught off guard by Friday’s defeat of a House bill to fund the agency for three weeks — and they spent several hours scrambling to figure out how to prevent a shutdown. Until late afternoon, it looked fairly clear that the House would pass a three-week continuing resolution,...

Congress passes one-week DHS fix | AP Government & Politics | Scoop.it
The House voted late Friday to stave off a shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security for another week, narrowly averting a funding lapse for the agency that has become the battleground over President Barack Obama’s executive actions on immigration. The Government Loan Program With a 116 Percent Default Rate | AP Government & Politics | Scoop.it
If you’re curious just what kind of risks the US government is taking with its $3.3 trillion in loan programs — a portfolio considerably larger and significantly stranger than any private bank’s — the best place to start is the Federal Credit Supplement, an obscure batch of tables stashed in the back of the annual White House...

President Obama vetoes Keystone bill; GOP plans override vote

President Obama vetoes Keystone bill; GOP plans override vote | AP Government & Politics | Scoop.it
President Barack Obama vetoed the Republicans’ Keystone XL pipeline bill Tuesday, rejecting Congress’ attempt to take the project’s fate out of his hands — and leaving the GOP on track for an override vote that will most likely fail. Obama’s veto message was delivered within hours of the legislation arriving on his desk,...

The president vetoed the bill because he believes it circumvented the process of approval and undermined his executive power. I belive it is likely to be overriden in congress. I would vote to overide his veto. he vetoed an appropriations act and interstate recognition of notorization act

ALec DaCosta-Vinson's curator insight, February 25, 12:37 PM

he thought that it would have a negative impact on the environment. yes because there a lot of people that are for the pipeline. no i wouldnt it.  Making further continuing appropriations for fiscal year 2010, and for other purposes.the Interstate Recognition of Notarizations Act of 2010.

Samantha Smith's comment, February 25, 10:57 PM
President Obama vetoed the bill because he believes the Keystone Pipeline would not improve environmental conditions. It will not likely to be overridden because the GOP does not have a majority support the bill. I agree with the President's decision. He previously vetoed an Appropriations Act and Interstate Recognition of Notarization Act.

Keystone XL Pipeline: An Economic And Environmental No-Brainer Despite The Veto

Keystone XL Pipeline: An Economic And Environmental No-Brainer Despite The Veto | AP Government & Politics | Scoop.it
President Obama's veto of the Keystone XL pipeline is a shortsighted, politically motivated slap in the face of most Americans in favor of honest work and honest consumption. By vetoing this no-brainer, the president has chosen to side with fringe environmentalists who put their own horse-out-of-the-barn cause and fundraising ahead of the environment itself.
