Megan Roberts's curator insight, March 31, 2:38 PM

I think that there should not be a law preventing service because of religious beliefs and that even though it may not have been intended this law does infact come off to support discrimination. I understand that these are private businesses but think back to african american equal rights, we didnt allow people to continue to deny them service so why do so with religion.

Nicole Sandler's curator insight, March 31, 2:40 PM

This bill should be opposed because it is very discriminatory and completely goes against America's separation of church and state. Although people should be able to practice religion as they please, they should not be able to discriminate based on their beliefs.

Joanne Lee's curator insight, March 31, 8:09 PM

I believe that business owners have a Constitutional right of religious freedom that would enable them to choose not to offer their services at same sex ceremonies, not out of any deliberate act of discrimination, but simply out of the fact that they hold different beliefs that they are committed to. If same sex couples have the right to practice their beliefs, what about business owners that abide by religious beliefs? However, I do not believe that this law was necessary, and the backlash is there to prove that it caused more harm than benefit. A law shouldn't have to be made to protect human rights (whether for or against same sex marriage) because we already have certain inalienable rights vested in the Constitution.

Nicole Sandler's curator insight, March 31, 2:33 PM

I don't believe that this law should be upheld, simply because it is a form of discrimination. If businesses are allowed to refuse service to certain types of people that go against their religious beliefs, then many people will boycott and go against this restriction.

Michelle Tran's curator insight, March 31, 2:37 PM

I think that the law is discriminating people. Just because of someone's religion they have restrictions upon them. It is unmoral of the legislation to give businesses the right to "deny" people because of their religion. This legislation is just giving businesses the right to deny service for certain people because of who they are. It is unfair and shouldn't be represented in any state of America.

Jeff Lopez's curator insight, March 31, 2:47 PM

This article is false. The Post should do some research next time. The Indiana bill is the first of its kind. This specific law deals with disputes where the government must not be a party. If the other state 'religious freedom' laws were like Indiana's there would be protests against them, and rightly so.
