The best last choice

Maybe travel less, President Barack Obama told Eric Holder. Want to be home more with your wife and kids? Let’s work out your schedule to make that happen. Tell us what we can do to make the job work better for you. Just don’t leave. The Holder stay-or-go conversation had become an annual late summer West Wing ritual. They’d ended...

Lapo's curator insight, November 18, 6:49 PM

This article basically talks about how it is very likely that Loretta Lynch could become the next attorney General since the former attorney general,  Holder had resigned even though POTUS and others tried to make him stay. It was implied that Loretta Lynch is very much liked, even by republicans, and that she has all the qualifications, and is as brilliant for the job.

Vicky Weng's curator insight, November 19, 1:47 AM

It is interesting to see how many people are involved in the decision. It definitely represents the American system of checks and balances. In life, we can't always have what we want but when there is a good group of people to lead America, we can make the best ones.

David Luo's curator insight, December 11, 7:34 PM

Loretta Lynch wasn't the President's initial pick. However, she received the job after attorney general Eric Holder told the President that he approves of Ms. Lynch. In the world of politics, sometimes knowing the right people is just as important as possessing good merit.

For incoming House freshmen, going to Congress is like going to college, with orientation on the dos and don’ts of Capitol Hill and a tough search for housing.

This article shows how the memebers of congress come from many different backgrounds. It talks about how joining congress is a similar process to attending college. They have to establish good relations with the other members, and learn all the new rules that come along with it.

Ian Overman's curator insight, November 17, 8:29 PM

Here, we learn how similar the orientation for the House of Representatives is to college and how certain new representatives, such Ms. Walters, will have to adapt to a balanced life to tackle their new responsibilities.

Nirvana Solano's comment, November 18, 12:01 AM
This shows that to start off in congress is not such an easy task, which should be said considering these are the people who will debate and decide on how the country is supposed to be run. It is not an easy task.

Vicky Weng's curator insight, November 19, 1:46 AM

I think it is inspiring how Obama is doing what he thinks is right even though many republicans oppose this policy. He has the facts and is informed of the issue but in the end he is doing what a president should do: make decisions that he believes is best for the country. He is resolute and unwavering even in the face of a loss of democrats in the congress.

Michael Yang's curator insight, November 19, 7:55 AM

This would increase the popular vote for Democrat, more immigrants would become liberal

David Luo's curator insight, December 11, 8:00 PM

President Obama's immigration policy may have dire consequences on the Democratic party as we head to the 2016 POTUS election. In the wake of Obama's potentially disastrous policies, the GOP is elated to possess more and more ammunition against the Democrats.

Pelosi to Boehner: Treat us ‘fairly’ on seats

Pelosi to Boehner: Treat us ‘fairly’ on seats | AP Government & Politics | Scoop.it
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is asking Speaker John Boehner to treat Democrats fairly when Republicans are divvying up seats on Congress’ most influential committees for next Congress. The California Democrat wrote to Boehner (R-Ohio) on Wednesday to make the case that Democrats should have roughly the same number of committee seats for...
Vicky Weng's curator insight, November 13, 3:47 PM

I strongly agree with Pelosi. After all, we are all supposed to working towards a common goal- leading America towards a greater good. If Democrats were willing to give Republicans more influence before when they were the minority, they should return the favor. Boehner's job is to make sure everyone is in balance and this is one way to help him do that.

Claire Weddle's curator insight, November 13, 3:48 PM

Pelosi wants Boehner to treat the Democrats fairly and give them the same amount of seats as the minority party in the committees as in the past.  I do not think Pelosi is going to get what she wants because the GOP wants to get things done and passed through Congress, so they do not lose support for the Republican candidate in the presidential election.

Shannon Dang's curator insight, November 13, 9:53 PM

Nancy Pelosi wants a fair decision on John Boehner's part of assigning committee seats. She wants him to give what the 111th Congress gave to the Republicans at that time. The 111th Congress gave them additional seats. She wants the Democrats to receive the same number of committee seats as the Republicans of the 111th Congress. I believe that it's only fair for Boehner to do so because it will set Congress on the right foot between the two parties.
