LOL Joe Biden&Sen Harkin credit Obama on Syria Diplomacy

LOL Joe Biden&Sen Harkin credit Obama on Syria Diplomacy | AP Gov | Scoop.it

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Vice President Joe Biden trumpeted the tentative agreement between Russia and the United States to press for the destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons as a signal success of the Obama administration’s foreign policy Sunday, telling a crowd of Democrats here that it was a credit to President Barack Obama’s “absolutely clear” vision for foreign policy.

At Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin’s annual steak-fry fundraiser, Biden told a hushed audience that it was thanks to the White House that the world was taking action against a “fundamental violation of human rights” – Syrian dictator Bashar Assad’s use of chemical weapons against his own people.”

Harkin, who is retiring from the Senate after 2014, lauded the de-escalation of the Syria crisis in even more emphatic terms.

“This happened because of the strength, the wisdom, the courage of President Obama; this guy right here, Vice President Joe Biden; and our great secretary of state, John Kerry,” Harkin said. “He reached this agreement with the international community to secure [Syria’s chemical weapons and] dismantle them by 2014.”

Said Harkin: “We didn’t lose one American life. That’s leadership, folks. That’s leadership.”

Alex Leek's insight:

This article is about what Vice President Joe Biden had to say on Obama's decision regarding Syria. Biden said that Obama's decision to push for the destruction of Syria's chemical weapons was a sign of success. He acclaimed Obama and made it known that he believed this was the right decision. Senator Harkin praised President Obama, VP Biden, and secretary of state John Kerry for their strength, wisdom, and courage in reaching this agreement with an international community.

What a joke. Putin took advantage of a Kerry gaffe, after Samantha Powers and Susan Rice the week before claimed all diplomatic options were exhausted. Then suddenly Obama&Kerry had to agree to diplomacy even though they were determined to start striking Syria with missiles without a vote in Congress, once the public expressed their anger towards striking Syria the Obama admin backed down and decided to have Congress vote before a military strike, but in the meantime Kerry spoke 'rhetorically' while Putin ran with the ball and asked for diplomacy.

The ball is in Putin's court and we are bowing to Putin and making deals with the devil, Putin can't be trusted and neither can Assad. They are buying time and shipping the chemical weapons to Iraq and/or likely giving them to Hezbollah in Lebanon just like Saddam did when he shipped the weapons to Syria while Democrats delayed a vote on attacking Iraq. Dems are good at obstructing and delaying true diplomatic decisions with their indecisiveness. This does nothing to prevent the spread of chemical weapons and Iran's push for nuclear weapons.

In the meantime, Putin will be meeting with the Iranian president on their nuclear weapons program, while offering them a missile defense system and Syria is moving chemical weapons from locations in Syria as we speak. By November, when the UN inspectors go back into Syria, all the weapons will be gone/hidden, just like Saddam's were by the time we went into Iraq. Not that I think we should get involved in Syria's civil war anyway, since both sides are anti-US, but we are on the losing end of this deal and Obama is being made a complete fool.

President Obama is weighing a military strike against Syria that would be of limited scope and duration, designed to serve as punishment for Syria’s use of chemical weapons and as a deterrent, while keeping the United States out of deeper involvement in that country’s civil war, according to senior administration officials.

The timing of such an attack, which would probably last no more than two days and involve sea-launched cruise missiles — or, possibly, long-range bombers — striking military targets not directly related to Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal, would be dependent on three factors: completion of an intelligence report assessing Syrian government culpability in last week’s alleged chemical attack; ongoing consultation with allies and Congress; and determination of a justification under international law.

Remember Bashar the Reformer?

American officials who for ego or because of animosity toward George W. Bush did their best to end Assad’s isolation. It’s always fun to read their statements reporting Assad’s willingness to solve mutual problems.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.), who took time out to tour the markets to maximum benefit for Syrian state television.Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), more John Kerry, and even more John Kerry. That second story reminds how the Obama administration once went so far as to give Syria spare parts for its planes. The late Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Penn.), at the time still a Republican, might have acted as a tour guide: His trip with Nelson and Kerry was his 16th taxpayer-funded trip to Damascus, and it was not his last.Secretary of State Hillary Clinton may not have gone herself, but she used her senate colleagues’ experience meeting Assad to justify her description of him as a reformer. “There’s a different leader in Syria now,” she told CBS’s Face the Nation, explaining, “Many of the members of Congress of both parties who have gone to Syria in recent months have said they believe he’s a reformer.”Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) spent nearly $8,000 on two trips to Damascus, while Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-NY) spent nearly twice that, according to Legistorm.Gen. David Petraeus repeatedly asked President George W. Bush for permission to go tête-à-tête with Assad in Damascus; let’s be glad Bush said no, both because it saved Petraeus the embarrassment and denied Assad a propaganda coup.

Perhaps in this age of budget-cutting, it would be useful to ask Pelosi, Kerry, and Nelson—all of whom still serve publicly—about what in hindsight they see as the value of their trips to Syria

The Federal Government Has Violated My Right to Chainsaw

The Federal Government Has Violated My Right to Chainsaw | AP Gov | Scoop.it
Why won’t my chainsaw start after a bad winter? It’s all the U.S. government’s fault—and it’s enough to get a person Tea Party mad and start reciting the Constitution.
Alex Leek's insight:

This article is about a guy who is upset because the government is meddling in private affairs that are directly affecting his everyday life. This guy's chainsaw isn't working anymore because of the governments attempt to be more efficient and put ethanol in gasoline, which apparently causes the gas to become gummy over a cold winter. Ethanol is considered biofuel and is made of alcohol. The author of the article is wondering which government agency is in charge of putting this biofuel in gasoline. The answer is the EPA. They are responsible for making sure that any fuel used for transportation has some kind of renewable fuel. Basically this guy is really upset that the government is doing all this stuff that he thinks they shouldn't because it broke his chainsaw and now he can't get that tree out of his front lawn.

I think the author is overreacting a little bit but I also think this article isn't entirely about his chainsaw. He is upset because he thinks the government is meddling in things that they should be. I don't think I'm authorized to tell the government what they can and can't do but I feel like energy efficiency and conserving resources is kind of important. If this guy is so upset maybe he should not leave gas in his chainsaw over the winter.

Alex Leek's insight:

This article is about how the government is now allowing banks to offer financial help to state-licensed marijuana businesses. Banks can do business with these dealers as long as they follow the eight specific priorities. However they are not sure that many banks will participate because they are in fear of getting in trouble with the federal government.

Australia PM's Epic Rant on Sexism Wins High Praise

Australia PM's Epic Rant on Sexism Wins High Praise | AP Gov | Scoop.it
What has to be the most viewed political video of the day has nothing to do with Mitt Romney, Barack Obama, or even Big Bird. It is Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard's 15-minute takedown of a political rival she views as sexist.

Via littlebytesnews
Alex Leek's insight:

This is a video of Australia's now former Prime Minister Julia Gillard giving a speech on sexism. She is arguing agaisnt her opposition Tony Abbot in the election of Prime Minister of Australia. She calls Abbot out on being a mysoginist and a sexist. She calls him out for contradicting himself by saying that misoginsits are not appropriate for high office and then making many sexist and rude comments about women. She says how offended she and other women were by the many comments he has made about abortion and that he was associated with a sign calling her offensive and demeaning names.

I think it's awesome that she stood up for herself and the women in Australia. She was offended and angered by what this man who is supposed to be highly regarded was saying about women and she said something about it. She did all her research and she had all the facts straight to help prove her point and prove to people that Abbot was a misoginsit.

Former Marine Warns Against US 'Building Domestic Army' In US

Video:

Published on Aug 15, 2013

This is how the Free State rolls. This is just the kind of active support for limited government, liberty and personal responsibility that's increasingly part of daily life in NH. Thank you FSP. What took you so long to get here...?
http://freestateproject.org/

FreedomOutPost.com:

Retired Marine Col. Pete Martino voiced his concerns about the United States “building a domestic Army” during a local city council meeting in Concord, New Hampshire. Col. Marino believes that the current militarization of police forces is a real threat to Americans.

“We don’t need this. I’m a retired… I was a retired Colonel in the Marine Corps. I saw a sign hanging in the back that said we want “More Mayberry, Less Fallujah.” I spent a year in Fallujah. You know what, when I first got there, I didn’t have armored Humvees. I spent…I traveled over 10,000 miles over there.  Sometimes you had to deal with and go with what you had.  That’s part of the job, for one. And second thing was… I was a Ministry of Defense Coordinator, where my job was to man, train and equip the Iraqi Army…and I can tell you right now…Somebody had the idea to get rid of the Iraqi Army…When we rebuilt it, we did everything we could to make it as strong as possible. And I’ll tell you right now, Homeland Security would kick their butts in a week. What’s happening here is we’re building a domestic military because it’s unlawful and unconstitutional to use American troops on American soil. So what we’re doing is building a military. My best friend, who is a SWAT officer in Nashua (NH), came to Iraq with me to train the Iraqi police, sent me a picture of him in the media, on the streets of Watertown, MASS, wearing the exact same combat gear we had in Iraq, only was a different color. The way we do things in the military is called “task organization.” You take a command and then you attach units to it in order to accomplish the mission. What’s happening is, Homeland Security is pre-staging gear, equipment. What they’re trying to do is use standardized vehicles, standardized equipment. I saw a picture in the Boston Globe during the Boston Marathon bombing, where there was a State police officer…actually there were two officers, they both had identical helmets, flak jackets, weapons, everything I wore in Iraq, only it was all blue. The officer on one side had a big patch that said Massachusetts State Police…the other officer next to him…his patch said Boston Police. What we’re doing here, and let’s not kid about it, we’re building a domestic army, and we’re shrinking the military because the government is afraid of its own citizens. The last time more than 10 terrorists were in the same place at the same time was September 11th. And all these vehicles in the world wouldn’t have prevented it or helped anybody. So I don’t know where we’re gonna use this many vehicles and this many troops. Concord is just one little cog in the wheel. We’re building an army over here, and I can’t believe people aren’t seeing it. Is everybody blind?” The crowd then erupted in applause and “thank you” could be heard coming from some. The colonel offered to field questions from those present, but none were offered.

I tend to believe this is true and that is why they want to disarm Americans. Obama also wants to let more illegals and criminals free in our country so they will continue to vote for welfare programs and DEMS in upcoming elections. These illegals are mostly from socialist countries who do not respect our Constitution and would more than willing give up their right to bear arms because they have lived under oppression already. They are brainwashed to think the govt is going to take care of them and solve all their problems by taking care of their food, housing and medical needs, but this is only the govts way of controlling the people, invading our privacy and taking away our individual rights.

This article is about a business that is trying to find a loop hole in Obamacare. They thought that if they hired more part time workers instead of full time workers, they could get out of paying the expensive health care. Unfortunately for them, the government said they had a way to still have them pay for Obamacare even if they had mostly part time workers.

I think it is unfortunate that business have to pay for this expensive health care but it is not fair for them to try to find ways around it. Everyone that meets the requirements must use Obamacare and there does not seem to be any way out of it.

This article discusses the state laws regarding second parent adoption when the couple is not legally married and laws against gay marriage. It talks about two different families where the parents have been together for over ten years and have either adopted or one of the partners has had children. The states they live in do not allow them to legally marry and also do not allow people who are not legally married to adopt the other's children. One of the couples has gone to court and is trying to get the law changed so both partners can legally adopt their children. The couples are worried because as of right now if one partner were to die the other would be considered a stranger in court and a judge could decide that the child would be better off with a relative or even in the foster care system. Neither couple wants this to happen to their children should an unfortunate event occur.
Alex Leek's comment, August 18, 2013 1:47 PM
I think it's unfair to have either of these laws. If a state is going to have a law that says there cannot be second parent adoption if the couple is not legally married but then also doesn't allow a certain couple to get legally married, that's incredibly unfair. There is no reason these couples shouldn't be allowed to be married and if that law remains in place it is unfair to the couple and to their children to not allow them to both be legal guardians. It could be potentially unsafe for the child if their only legal parent dies and a judge puts them in the foster care system even though a parent they have grown up with is a suitable guardian.

This article talks about a firefighter that was injured while rescuing high school students in Costa Mesa and then was denied restitution in court. The firefighter injured his back from falling around 100 feet. His hospital bills were around 350,000 dollars because he needed back surgery. One of the kids he helped rescue was charged with possession of methamphetamine after they found the drugs in his car. The judge denied the fire agency restitution because he claimed they are not crime victims and do not qualify for restitution.
Alex Leek's comment, August 18, 2013 4:30 PM
I think that the fire agency should be allowed restitution. They were injured while rescuing teenagers that had been lost in the woods for days. It is not fair that he should have to pay for his medical bills that he only has being he was doing a great thing in saving kids. Although it makes sense for the judge to have said no because he was not a victim of a crime he still deserves something for his help.

This article is about a bill that is trying to get passed to reduce the amount of illegal immigrants in this country. They say it will cut the amount of illegal immigration in half. The bill would cost a lot to enforce but it would reduce some deficits and cause immigrants and employers to pay new fees and taxes. However the republican party is opposed to the bill because of one certain aspect. It would cause the estimated 11 million immigrants in this country to take a 13 year course to become a citizen.

This article is about a Canadian pipeline that would carry crude oil to American refineries. President Obama said that the pipeline must not worsen global warming. Canadians have been trying to find a greener way for this pipeline to work so that it can start being used. They are struggling however because synthetic fuels made from oil sands creates more green house gases than making it from normal oil. If the amount of carbon intensity in the oil sands can be reduced it will be easier for them to get the pipeline approved.
Alex Leek's comment, August 18, 2013 8:01 PM
I think it would be a good idea to do this if it will help reduce pollution and not worsen global warming. If the researchers in Canada can improve the pipeline to make it cleaner and safer it would be a good idea. However if the pipeline would cause a lot of harm to the environment than it isnt worth it.

This article is about the amendment that Senator Ted Cruz wants to add to the immigration bill. The amendment would permit states to ask for ID from voters before being allowed to vote. This would insure that everyone voting was a United States citizen. He announced the proposal of this amendment because the Supreme Court shot down a provision in Arizona's voter registration laws asking for identification.
Alex Leek's comment, August 18, 2013 8:57 PM
I don't think it is a bad idea to require identification when going to vote. I feel like that is something we should be doing already. The immigration bill is already very complicated though which might make it difficult for this amendment to be passed.

Abigail Beinborn's curator insight, May 12, 2014 9:48 AM

Government spending has led to a massive debt. I believe there are ways we can spend less to help reduce our debt, but we can't stop spending governemnt money. We have to pay for the troops that fight for our country and many other people and things to keep this country going. We need to watch our government spending more closely and cautiously.

Lauren Heim's comment, May 18, 2014 6:41 PM
The U.S. Spending has come to an all time low or should I say high? The government has only brought us the feeling of failure and that our economy is breaking down since they've only spent their money in places/things that don't actually work. The least they could do is slow it down or fund something that's actually useful.

Health insurance is not a right, it's a personal responsibility and choice. If you need it you buy it and if you want it you choose to get it. If you can't afford it you are already covered under Medicaid or Medicare or through emergency medical treatment in our ERs. Even illegals can get free medical care in our ERs. While this is not ideal it is already offered to the poor and illegals.

What we can do is plan for the future by taking care of ourselves and saving up for a rainy day. Health insurance is not the govts job to provide and it's not a 'right'. We have a personal responsibility to take care of ourselves, provide for our families and seek charity from private organizations if needed. It's not the job of the govt/other taxpayers to provide.

She talks about an incident that happened in December where a woman was captured, raped by multiple men, beat with metal poles, and then later died due to those injuries. Gazner said that this incident has terrified her and many women in Delhi to the point where they aren't comfortable even going outside. Gazner says she has become more reserved and only goes outside when it is necessary. She tells about an experience she had when she was out with a male friend and a group of men grabbed her with the intentions of pulling her into a car and raping her. When she fought back they began to beat her and her friend tried to help and hold them off. Gazner saw an opportunity to run back to her apartment where she called the police. When they never showed up, she took her beaten and bloody friend to the hospital herself. Gaznel talks about how India just is not a safe place for women at all.

It is horrible that someone should feel unsafe leaving their house and be forced to stay inside without certainty that they are even safe there.
