Shamanism and Eco-Psychology~Dr. Leslie Gray

Shamanism and Eco-Psychology~Dr. Leslie Gray | anything on shamanism | Scoop.it

"My purpose tonight in speaking is to suggest that the re-inclusion of the ancient world view expressed in the American Indian statement "all my relations" is precisely our greatest hope for the future, ecologically and psychologically. I'll say a little bit about the situation we are in. I would describe it as nothing less than imminent global catastrophe. Ecocide if you will.

As a species we are destroying our life support systems. The air is becoming increasingly unbreathable. The hole in the ozone grows larger. Water becomes undrinkable, the oceans are dying, the soil is eroded and turning non-arable. Toxic nuclear waste is leaking into all three elements just mentioned from unthinking, short sighted attempts to harness the fourth element, fire.

No one escapes the daily recitation of the facts of planetary destruction in the media. They are voluminous. But whether it is the loss of a hundred species to our ecosystem a day or the destruction of old growth forests equal to the area of Pennsylvania each year or even the information that due to pesticides sperm counts of American males today are 50% that of their grandfathers, we seem to respondto these facts with...(Click title for more)

Moon Rituals

Moon Rituals | anything on shamanism | Scoop.it

Òrìsà Lifestyle does not place high value on any form of astrology. Still, the moon has always been a reliable calendar, whose 28 day cycles are much easier to observe than the 365 day cycles of the sun. Consequently, people who live close to nature, and depend totally on the fertility of the soil, the abundance of the rivers and the rainfall for survival, often depend heavily upon the cycles of the moon. Such people are acutely aware of the miracle of nature and its ability to rejuvenate, in terms of seasons, crops and the animal offspring, at regular intervals. In short, the moon is a strong symbol of fertility abundant creativity.

Why We Love Music, by Jill Suttie | DailyGood

Why We Love Music, by Jill Suttie | DailyGood | anything on shamanism | Scoop.it
What is our fascination with music? And, why is it that it sometimes invokes such a deeply emotional response? Scientists have been pondering this question for years, and now -- with fMRI technology they are able to visualize the brain's musical connection. "Music affects deep emotional centers in the brain," shares neuroscientist, Valorie Salimpoor. "It's very powerful." How powerful? In one study, research suggests that we may be biologically driven to our tastes in music.

A swirling celebration of one of the greatest creative icons of the twentieth century.

Nobel laureate Pablo Neruda was not only one of the greatest poets in human history, but also a man of extraordinary insight into the human spirit — take, for instance, his remarkable reflection on what a childhood encounter taught him about why we make art, quite possibly the most beautiful metaphor for the creative impulse ever committed to paper.

Dark Moon, Subtle Influence

Dark Moon, Subtle Influence | anything on shamanism | Scoop.it

Generally, the moon represents the mind and the emotions. Unlike the orisa, who have elaborately defined rites and rules of engagement, the moon signifies your intuitive relationship to the divine. One popular song for ori declares that "in the same way that the stars do not depart from the moon, my ori, you must not depart from me." It signifies a natural relationship between you and your spiritual essence. It is not subject to the scrutiny and judgement of others, who would have you conform blindly to their standards. In this way, the moon has a very personal significance to each individual. Of course the sun is very important to us too as it our main source of light, but its light is too intense for you to survive direct exposure. It was because of this reason, in fact, that the moon and stars were chosen to be Orunmila's regents here on earth. And so it is that the moon, who has no light source of its own is the gentle reflection of the soul’s blinding energy. The moon embodies iwa pele, or gentle character. Therefore the Moon indicates our emotional and psychological patterns and tendencies, commonly known as emotional intelligence (EQ).

EQ implies maturity, an ability to excercise patience and reflection, especially in tenuous situations. It is the ability to "read" an individual or an entire room, and adjust from one moment to the next, without losing focus and direction. Great salesmen, public speakers, teachers and performers are steeped in EQ. This is what allows them to engage auduences over extended periods of time without forcing or cajoling them into participation. This subtle influence is the domain of the moon, whose unseen power quiety pulls the waters of the planet from shore to shore. The Orisa Lifestyle Moon Rituals make use of this subtle influence to draw out the optimal energy necessary for you to enjoy breakthrough relationships with your inner spirit, your ancestors and your immediate future.
