This reminds me of the scholarly article, "Heartless and cunning? Intelligence in adolescents with antisocial behavior". I have worked with adolescents throughout my life and have seen psychopathic traits in children that has manifested in various ways once these kids enter adulthood. I believe there is a connection between these traits and future alcohol or drug dependency and violence. 

Our textbook agrees that these traits are shown at a young age and can be proven by a difference in the brain.

SUPPOSE you're a psychotherapist with a deeply disturbed patient who describes in detail his dreams of sexual mutilation and murder. The fantasies happen to mirror the modus operandi of a real serial killer in Greenwich Village from the late 1960's to the early 70's. The therapist presses the patient to find out whether he is involved in the killings. This leads to threats against the therapist, the stalking of the therapist's children and the abduction of the therapist's fiancee.

This article was written over 10 years ago regarding a book written by a psychiatrist about a patient of his. The book got a lot of attention which included lots of controversy. The diagnosis of antisocial personality disorder was relatively new to society, and this book exposed some of the disorders inner workings. The author believed it was much more common within society than people assumed.

It focuses on one in particular Ariel Castro, who was tried in court for holding women captive in his basement. Its frightening what some of the people with the disorder are capable of, which is why its important to be able to recognize warnings signs.

Her case was extreme in that she was incarcerated most of her adolescence life, and ended up committing suicide. The tragedy is that her disorder is what allowed her to have so little concern for harm not only to others but to herself. The article is brief but it provides insight into the struggles one with this disorder may face.
