“Black tenants in Harlem during the 1920s and... | Antiques & Vintage Collectibles | Scoop.it

Black tenants in Harlem during the 1920s and 1930s faced discriminatory rental rates. A thoughtful piece on the need for an important cultural artifact to evolve -- not just in its codex form but in its very essence -- the Encyclopedia.

Barbara Ford's comment, March 9, 2013 8:11 AM
I watched this video and realized just how sad it will be when and if all publishers cease print and all physical books become artifacts (a la Star Trek). Which is worse? Burning books because they are now available in an electronic format? Or not having any physical books to burn, unless you steal them from a museum or collector?

Fashion 1960 Style: Why 60's Retro Clothing Became Iconic | Antiques & Vintage Collectibles | Scoop.it
For men, the 60's brought the mod look with Italian slim fitting suits and skinny ties. These were the looks that defined the era, for many are still popular today, and still influence British fashion and style.

Old does not equal valuable

Old does not equal valuable | Antiques & Vintage Collectibles | Scoop.it

Worth is a worthless term. “I’m forever hearing this is worth such and such,” said Sullivan. “I wish I could strike the word ‘worth’ from our vocabulary.” The value the person states is always far greater than what the item would ever sell for. That’s especially true of collectables, he said. “In a collectors’ catalog, an item will be listed for one value, but if you want to sell it, you won’t get anywhere near that.”
