“Hello, Cutie!” The Interview

“Hello, Cutie!” The Interview | Antiques & Vintage Collectibles | Scoop.it

A few weeks ago, I had the great pleasure of reviewing a new release which explores the collectible culture of “cute”. …And maybe exploits the rise of cute in contemporary culture. But in a good way — I swear. Entitled Hello, Cutie!: Adventures in Cute Culture, the book was not only charming but so engaging that I just had to interview its author, Pamela Klaffke.

Thor Motorcycles ~ Turning Bicycles into Moto Cycles ~ Lima Ohio

Thor Motorcycles ~ Turning Bicycles into Moto Cycles ~ Lima Ohio | Antiques & Vintage Collectibles | Scoop.it

What we see is the A.J. Gladwell Bicycle shop, with 665 above the door, and 665 R. Beechman on the awning.

So I set out to find more about Mr. Gladwell, and why the name Beechman was on his awning but not his painted window sign.

Parka Avenue: What is the ultimate Mod scooter? Vespa vs Lambretta

Parka Avenue: What is the ultimate Mod scooter? Vespa vs Lambretta | Antiques & Vintage Collectibles | Scoop.it
First, most Mods fall into two camps: Vespa or Lambretta. Just like the age old Coca-Cola vs Pepsi rivalry, the two Italian scooter brands have been trying to outshine each other since the start. (I'm a Coke fan by the way) ...

Laura Brown's comment, March 2, 5:30 PM
I really wanted a scooter when I lived downtown. The big drawback ws finding a secure place to park it any place I stopped. But, it would been so great for jaunting around town.
Laura Brown's curator insight, March 2, 5:32 PM

I had scooter lust a few years ago. They looked so much fun and so simple to get around with in the city. The drawback was finding a parking spot where I could hope it would still be there when I came back out again.

Cerchio del Ghisallo workshop | Antiques & Vintage Collectibles | Scoop.it
