Hand Painted Limoges Porcelain Box Hinged First Hair Cut Tooth Fairy Moon - The Vintage Village | Antiques & Vintage Collectibles | Scoop.it

What a beautiful keepsake this would make for any child. It makes me smile just looking at a picture of it, and I can only imagine how much I would smile holding it with my childs first tooth lovingly tucked away in it.

This is a Hand painted Limoges porcelain box is hinged and features a visiting tooth fairy and smiling moon on robin's egg blue ground. The box is round with two bands of brass decoration and a face of the sun clasp. The bottom is hand marked Peint Main, which translates to hand-painted and Limoges France green mark. It measures 2 inches across the top by 1 inch tall. The condition is very good with no damage and the box opens and closes well.

The Origins Of A Mid-Century Modern Endtable | Inherited Values | Antiques & Vintage Collectibles | Scoop.it

It has a very odd shape — it looks different no matter what angle you look at it from. There’s spaces underneath for books, a tall slot at the back for your large-format Life and Look magazines, and the classic kidney-shaped top means it’ll both fit everywhere and not quite fit anywhere. Of course, we had to buy it.

Fast-forward a few weeks later...

Once upon a time, brightly-colored graphics on pressed layers of cardboard in the shape of characters from nursery rhymes, Mother Goose stories, and other childhood tales covered the walls in baby nurseries and children's bedrooms.

Jennifer Aniston ‘enjoys antique spree’

Jennifer Aniston ‘enjoys antique spree’ | Antiques & Vintage Collectibles | Scoop.it

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux have reportedly been visiting antique emporiums around Los Angeles as they kit out their new mansion with furniture...

"One of the most expensive items was an 18th-century mahogany rocking chair, which cost in the region of $1 million," a source told UK magazine Grazia. "It was apparently used by Founding Father Benjamin Franklin."

The insider reports that Jennifer fell in love with a $300,000 Georgian bookcase. Her fiancé 41-year-old actor Justin is also said to have grown fond of antiques, with his buys reflecting a more personal meaning.

"Justin's favourite piece was a longcase Tompion English clock from the 1660s, which was said to have been used by British royalty. He recalled his grandfather having a similar one and wanted something like it," an insider explained. "They're both extremely happy with all they've purchased, but they haven't finished yet. The house is going to be crammed with history by the time they are done."

DIY Tea Tin Herbs

DIY Tea Tin Herbs | Antiques & Vintage Collectibles | Scoop.it

I love cooking for family and friends, and as all the pros will tell you, food always tastes more flavourful when it's made with fresh herbs. This quick, kid-friendly project lets you get a head start growing an herb garden before summer comes and will afford the luxury of fresh ingredients year-round. And after a long winter, I'm starved for spring greenery, and these pretty tea tins, brimming with plant life, add welcome colour to a windowsill or kitchen shelf.

Deanna Dahlsad's curator insight, March 6, 8:56 AM

A great idea of recycling tins; even vintage rusted ones (in condidtions too bad to be desireable collectibles) can be used to add good taste and charm to your home.

Bek Atkins's curator insight, March 7, 6:52 AM

This is an easy project that students of all abilities can achieve. This activity would develop skills in line with statements in the Australian National Curriculum: science - biological science for years F- 2. [(ACSSU002), (ACSSU017), (ACSSU211) and (ACSSU030).] These statements call for students to observe the biological processes of a variety of different organisms. The positive point for using plants is that if they are roughly treated or neglected the consequences are less traumatic then if it was a guinea pig.

This activity would also translate to Home Economics where students could use their herbs to create nutritional meals. Special needs students (and in fact all young children) can be very picky about their food, especially if it is green! By growing, nurturing and then using their own produce, students have ownership and this may make students more likely to try and like the foods.

Through the teaching of Home Economics skills students can begin to acquire the necessary life skills to become independent.
