Makerbot Industries, la marca de impresora 3d personal, trabaja desde hace meses sobre le Digitizer haciendo públicos los avances de este aparato y probándolo en su tienda de nueva York. Este nuevo escaner de pequeño tamaño consiste en una base giratoria y en dos láseres. El objeto colocado en la plataforma del escaner gira a medida que los láseres lo escanean. Un nuevo software, el Makerware for Digitizer reconstruye en poco tiempo el objeto a partir de los puntos recuperados y lo limpia automáticamente de manera a poder imprimirlo sin necesidad de retoques manuales. Además, permite compartir directamente el modelo en Thingiverse o con un grupo limitado de usuarios.

NASA's new Sustainability Base was designed by William McDonough + Partners to embody the spirit of NASA while fostering collaboration, supporting health and well-being, and exceeding the requirements of LEED® Platinum.

An exoskeleton approach provides for structural stability during seismic events, facilitates glare-free daylighting and shading, natural ventilation and connection to the outdoors, and flexibility of the workspace with its column-free interior.

Atop the two-story 50,000-square-foot building is a solid-oxide fuel cell and rooftop solar arrays, supplying the building with more energy than it requires and sending surplus back to the grid at Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California. Currently running on natural gas, the fuel cell is ready to be converted to landfill gas when a source is available...

"Instead of using Illustrator to design a woodcut, a new project lets you draw each cut as you go for freer creativity.

Using a laser pointer as a knife, a project at the Computer Human Interaction conference lets users make custom creations out of wood and plastic without spending hours designing.

Called Constructables, the project from Germany's Hasso Plattner Institute uses a £50,000 industrial laser cutter. The machine is controlled by a set of laser pointers, about a dozen, each with a different function. One can draw straight lines, one rounded corners, one rectangles and so on."
