Generic Erlocip (Erlotinib Tablets)

Generic Erlocip (Erlotinib Tablets) | Anti Cancer Medicine | Scoop.it

http://www.pharmacyanddrug.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=20&product_id=389&limit=75

pharmacyanddrug's insight:

Erlocip (Erlotinib Tablets)

Erlocip (Erlotinib) is an anti-cancer medication which works by blocking the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). This helps to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Indications include first line treatment of metastatic NSCLC (non-small cell lung cancer) and pancreatic cancer. Patients being treated for pancreatic cancer will also be treated with another cancer medicine (gemcitabine). The main ingredient in this drug is classified as a kinase inhibitor. Its mechanism of action is inhibiting the kinase activity of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). The EGFRs are present on the cell surface and they help the epidermal growth factor (a type of protein which is known to stimulate the growth of cells) attach itself to the cells, resulting in the activation of an enzyme known as tyrosine kinase. This enzyme helps trigger growth in the cancer cells. However, this medicine reversibly inhibits EGFR action, which disrupts the entire chemical process that causes the growth of the cancer cells, thereby preventing the multiplication of the cancer cells. Medical tests may be required by your physician to determine whether or not the cancer is likely to be responsive to treatment with this medicine.

Dosage and Administration

Erlocip (Erlotinib) is provided as tablet form. There is a 100mg strength version available, as well as 150mg strength tablets. Your physician will determine which one is most suitable. The medicine is generally administered 1 hour prior to consumption of food or else 2 hours after eating. In some cases, patients treating small cell lung cancer may be told by their physician to take 150mg once per day. Adult patients treating pancreatic cancer are sometimes directed by the physician providing medical treatment to take 100mg per day.

Generic Zofran, Emeset MD 8 (Ondansetron)

Generic Zofran, Emeset MD 8 (Ondansetron) | Anti Cancer Medicine | Scoop.it

http://www.pharmacyanddrug.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=20&product_id=30&limit=75

pharmacyanddrug's insight:
What is Emeset 8 used for?

Emeset 8 tablets 8mg are used to treat and prevent nausea and vomiting caused by certain cancer treatments including cancer chemotherapy and radiotherapy, which are used to kill cancer cells. Emeset 8 is also used to prevent post-operative nausea and vomiting. Emeset 8 helps to control and manage the onset of nausea and vomiting following cancer treatment and following surgery but it is not effective at preventing nausea and vomiting due to other causes like motion sickness, which are caused by a different mechanism.

How does Emeset 8 work?

Emeset 8 tablets 8mg contains ondansetron, a potent and highly selective 5HT3 receptor-antagonist that is used as an antiemetic to control the nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy and radiotherapy, also to prevent post-operative nausea and vomiting. It is thought that chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery can cause the release of serotonin (5HT) from the cells of the small intestine, which stimulates 5HT3 receptors that are found on the vagal nerves in the intestines. Stimulation of these nerve endings by serotonin sends nerve messages to the vomiting centre in the brain (a complex area of neuronal networks) that induces the vomiting reflex. Ondansetron is thought to work by blocking the transmission of nerve messages from the intestines to the vomiting centre in the brain. There are also 5HT3 receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) of the area postrema in the brain, which is where the vomiting reflex originates, by sending nerve messages to the vomiting centre. It is thought that ondansetron in Emeset 8 also blocks the 5HT3 receptors in the CTZ and this also prevents activation of the vomiting centre in the brain. Ondansetron in Emeset 8 thereby blocks the 5HT3 receptors found in the peripheral nervous system in the intestine and the central nervous system in the brain. This dual effect of ondansetron in Emeset 8 prevents vomiting caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy; also post-surgery vomiting and also helps relieve the feelings of nausea.

Generic Matulane, P-Carzine (Procarbazine HCL)

Generic Matulane, P-Carzine (Procarbazine HCL) | Anti Cancer Medicine | Scoop.it

http://www.pharmacyanddrug.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=20&product_id=20&limit=75

pharmacyanddrug's insight:
Generic Matulane : Introduction

The product contains Procarbazine HCl which tends to be a potent anti neoplastic drug inhibiting the spread of the cancer in the body. Procarbazine belongs to alkylating group which prevents the spread of the cancer by cross linking guanine bases in the DNA helix strands rendering them inseparable. This step being necessary for the replication, fails to occur leading to termination of the cell division. In addition the drug also adds methyl as well as alkyl groups to the strand where they normally do not belong, leading to construction of a disrupted strand and miscoding of DNA.

Generic Matulane : Use

The drug has been implicated in the treatment of cancer. Mainly used as an adjuvant therapy, the drug prevents the spread of neoplastic tissue prolonging the survival rate of the patient. It has been proved quite efficacious in the treatment of Hodgkin's lymphoma and other lymphomas like lymphosarcoma- reticulosarcoma- Brill-Symmers disease. Matulane has also proved quite effective in treating the cases which do not respond to other medications.

Generic Iressa,Geftinat (Gefitinib Tablets) | Anti Cancer Medicine | Scoop.it

http://www.pharmacyanddrug.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=20&product_id=17&limit=75

pharmacyanddrug's insight:
Generic Iressa,Geftinat (Gefitinib Tablets)

Geftinat (Gefitinib) is classified as a protein kinase inhibitor and is indicated for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. Its mechanism of action is inhibiting the signaling pathways responsible for causing the growth of cancer cells. When normal cell growth is affected, constant division of cells can occur, which in turn may lead to lung cancer. It is common for an increase in epidermal growth factor receptor (EFGR) activity to occur in tumors (usually due to mutations within the EFGR causing a mutated EGF receptor), which contributes to the proliferation of cancer cells and the growth of the tumor.

This medication works by binding to the tyrosine kinase domain of the mutated EFGR and blocking its signaling pathways. As a result of this, the spread and multiplication of the cancer cells may be stopped. It should be noted that this medicine is only used for the treatment of EFGR mutation positive non-small cell cancer, and diagnostic tests may be required by the physician providing treatment to determine whether or not the cancer is likely to respond to treatment with this medication.

Dosage and Administration

Geftinat (Gefitinib) comes as 250mg strength tablets which are to be taken by mouth. Patients will be placed under the close supervision of a physician at all times during treatment. Generally, physicians will instruct adult patients to take 1 tablet per day. Patients may swallow the tablet alongside a glass of water, and it may be administered either with or without food. In some cases, patients who suffer from side effects due to toxicity may be directed by their physician to take a short break from treatment which may last for as long as 14 days, before continuing treatment. All instructions provided by the physician responsible for treatment must be followed at all times.

Generic Neupogen (Filgrastim 300mg Injction)

Generic Neupogen (Filgrastim 300mg Injction) | Anti Cancer Medicine | Scoop.it

http://www.pharmacyanddrug.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=20&product_id=47&limit=75

pharmacyanddrug's insight:
Why is this medication prescribed?

Filgrastim is used to decrease the chance of infection in people who have certain types of cancer and are receiving chemotherapy medications that may decrease the number of neutrophils (a type of blood cell needed to fight infection), in people who are undergoing bone marrow transplants, and in people who have severe chronic neutropenia (condition in which there are a low number of neutrophils in the blood). Filgrastim is also used to prepare the blood for leukapheresis (a treatment in which certain blood cells are removed from the body and then returned to the body following chemotherapy). Filgrastim is in a class of medications called colony-stimulating factors. It works by helping the body make more neutrophils.

How should this medicine be used?

Filgrastim comes as a solution (liquid) to inject under the skin or into a vein. It is usually given once a day, but may be given twice a day when it is used to treat severe chronic neutropenia. The length of your treatment depends on the condition that you have and how well your body responds to the medication. If you are using filgrastim to decrease the risk of infection during chemotherapy, you will receive your first dose of filgrastim at least 24 hours after you receive a dose of chemotherapy, and will continue to receive the medication every day for up to 2 weeks. If you are using filgrastim to decrease the risk of infection during a bone marrow transplant, you will receive the medication at least 24 hours after you receive chemotherapy and at least 24 hours after the bone marrow is infused. If you are using filgrastim to prepare your blood for leukapheresis, you will receive your first dose of filgrastim at least 4 days before the first leukapheresis and will continue to receive the medication until the last leukapheresis. If you are using filgrastim to treat severe chronic neutropenia, you may need to use the medication for a long period of time.

Filgrastim may be given to you by a nurse or other healthcare provider, or you may be told to inject the medication at home. If you will be injecting filgrastim at home, inject the medication at about the same time every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use filgrastim exactly as directed. Do not use more or less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

If you will be injecting filgrastim yourself, a healthcare provider will show you how to inject the medication. Be sure that you understand these directions. Ask your healthcare provider if you have any questions about where on your body you should inject filgrastim, how to give the injection, what type of syringe to use, or how to dispose of used needles and syringes after you inject the medication.

Your doctor may start you on a low dose of filgrastim and gradually increase your dose. Your doctor may also decrease your dose, depending on how your body reacts to the medication.

If you are using filgrastim to treat severe chronic neutropenia, you should know that filgrastim will control your condition but will not cure it. Continue to use filgrastim even if you feel well. Do not stop using filgrastim without talking to your doctor.

Ask your pharmacist or doctor for a copy of the manufacturer's information for the patient.
