Parties violating ECP ban on billboards, banners

Almost all political parties continue to violate directives of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) about ban on billboards, large posters and banners as the district administration is showing indolence in implementing the order. Gigantic billboards in the city are decorated with different political parties’ advertisements that are part of the election campaign. “Pakistan banaya tha, Pakistan bachayengay,” reads one large hoarding of a political party on the University Road. Another party’s advertisement displayed in huge alphabets “amn, amn, amn.” With portraits of several political leaders, one more billboard contains the slogan of “hope.” Billboards of almost all political parties violating the ECP’s directives could be seen in different parts of the city, particularly on the University Road. According to ECP, a hoarding during political campaign should not be over 3x5 feet, banner 3x9 feet, poster 2x3 feet and handbill 9x6 inches. The ECP has evolved a code of conduct for the election campaign and asked political parties to follow it. Currently, hardly any party has shown willingness to follow the code of conduct voluntarily.“We have formally asked all the district administrations to remove billboards that violate the ECP directives,” said an official of the ECP Peshawar.
