Anna Simonelli's insight:

This was a great video for people wondering what nursing school is like. It shared insight from nursing school on how much they liked their professors and how the program is layed out. I liked that it shows some of the things that they do as nursing students and isn't just someone sitting their and talking. All the students had nothing bad to say about the profession and really enjoyed the hands on aspect of the schooling. It makes me excited for nursing.

USF ranks 2nd in California and 20th overall as a Top Student Rated Nursing Program

USF ranks 2nd in California and 20th overall as a Top Student Rated Nursing Program | Anna's Nursing Project | Scoop.it

Via University of San Francisco
Anna Simonelli's insight:

Being rated second by students really could mean that it is an easier program because students are more likely to succeed and therefore they are going to like it better. I think that it is probably a good program with a hard course, but so are a lot of other schools. I know that EvCc (where I plan to attend) is a really hard course and it is highly looked upon. Personally I wouldn't want to attend a University for Nursing and a lot of people think that they are getting a better education there but there are really good nursing schools that are not Universities.

Anna Simonelli's insight:

This was an odd article because I had no idea that nursing school could be online. And to be honest I am not 100 percent sure that I would want to take nursing school online. They offer many programs but I am not sure how they can do that. Especially since nursing is a hands on job. I don't know if I personally would like this kind of schooling because it would be nothing like the real world and wouldn't prepare me for what is ahead.

Anna Simonelli's insight:

I recently just learned that field nurses are also registered EMT's or they have to be in Washington at least. So not only is Denise a very motivated nurse she has also gone above and beyond in her education to help these people. This is definitely an option for my career choice in the future. It is good to know that there are nursed like Denise who are willing to travel in all kinds of weather to service patients who can't do a lot on their own. I can't even imagine how rewarding that would be.

Anna Simonelli's insight:

I was unaware on how many nurses were in California. The sad part being that now they don't have enough teachers for it. I plan on becoming a teacher for nursing after i decide that being in a hospital maybe isn't for me anymore, make way for new nurses. This decrease in teachers could make a decrease in the number of nurses they produce but there will be open nursing jobs because of that.

Good for you: gregg chair of gerontology funded at utc nursing school | Anna's Nursing Project | Scoop.it
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga announces the establishment of the Vicky B. Gregg Chair of Gerontology in its School of Nursing.
Anna Simonelli's insight:

This is an awesome article showing how much power nurses can have. Most people see them just as the person that gives you shots but in actuality they make tough choices regarding the hospital, education, and welfare of patients. This article clearly shows a nurse taking a stand on a board/chair that will affect lots of people. Nurses can make choices and can take a stand, it's not only doctors.

Nurse Anesthesia program at Wesleyan continues awarding first doctorates
The Rambler
Let's be clear: Wesleyan's Nurse Anesthesia is not a nursing program. It is a Master's level degree with advanced studies for registered and practicing nurses.
Anna Simonelli's insight:

This article was really awesome because i was unaware that someone could be a Nurse Anesthesia and have a doctorate. Even though the course seems extremely rigorous, obviously it is feasible. The program offers many opportunities to nurses becasue they can now work in a variety of places since their degree is so high up. It seems like an extremely respected degree therefore the nurses that obtain it probably wouldn't need as much guidance. The article even said how they need less doctors to help them and guide them. My  cousin has a doctorate in nursing, so I am guessing they are along the same lines.

Never did a shower feel so good to wash away the trauma! Advice to anyone who wants to become a health care assistant – do it, but make sure you have the stomach for it!
Anna Simonelli's insight:

This article really showed the underbelly of nursing/health assistant. It proved that even if you don't have a lot of experience, you will learn. Even though Nursing can be trying, this women really showed me that it just takes a little determiniation. Of course, this wasn't even in the United States, the fact that she got a job within a week of applying makes me feel a little bit better on the post-college side of things.

Nursing cuts putting NHS patients at risk, says new study

Nursing cuts putting NHS patients at risk, says new study | Anna's Nursing Project | Scoop.it
Royal College of Nursing claims that as many as one in six nursing posts at some NHS hospitals are lying vacant

Via Steven Preece
Anna Simonelli's insight:

This is really sad but at the same time is a "relief" for nursing students because knowing that their is job openings is a good thing as graduation comes closer. It is sad though because the lack of staffing can lead to a less number of patients that the hospital can hold. Or it could stretch the existing nurses until the care that their patients are getting isn't top notch. Even though this is the United Kingdom and not the United States, no one wants patients to feel not safe with the care they are receiving.

Anna Simonelli's insight:

Once again I am not a big fan of the idea of online nursing school. Yet I have never heard of this kind of program for nursing and it sounds awesome. It is a whole different realm of nursing. You can work with victims collecting evidence and you can work in a different part of death. Which is a sad thing but it is also an important thing. It is a different way of helping people that is much different then just the hospital scene.

Anna Simonelli's insight:

I did not know a lot about the whole idea of being a school nor the challenges that come along with it. My brother has ADHD and I know that he had a close bond with the school nurse. School nurses have a lot on their plate and they have to recognize all the different battles that every student is fighting. They not only help with cuts and bruises they can also help with emotional support. This is a really rewarding career path.

What was your first job? It was an 18-month staff nurse development programme; six months on an orthopaedic surgical ward followed by care of the older people then the intensive therapy unit.
Anna Simonelli's insight:

This article was very cool bcause she talked a little bit about how nursing school used to be. I thought that sh had good insight on nursing and it was awesome that she wanted to get her PhD. I only know of a handul of nurses witht that degree and they say that it is very difficult. She seemed very happy with her job even though she has been doing it for a while. I hope that one day I could look back and have no regrets about my career.

It doesn't matter how many years they've been nurses, it doesn't matter how many different areas of nursing they have experienced, it doesn't matter how vast their education extends–their minds are always open to learning.
Anna Simonelli's insight:

This article has great tips on being the best nurse possible and I must say I felt very confident that I can hold up those standards. These are great tips because they seem to be true to all nurses that I have met. Of course not all nurses hold up to that standard and that helps the nurses who push themselves because those steps in the ladder have less people going for it.

Though nursing students Judy Jacob-Mathew and Emily Parkinson graduated Saturday at the top of their class, getting perfect scores wasn't their inspiration. It was helping people.
Anna Simonelli's insight:

Even though the two women in the article said that getting good grades wasn't the insentive, I think that this article shows that good grades do make a difference. They graduated with honors and that is because they did so well in their classes. This will help them either further their education or help them immensely when looking for a job. I know that the job field is growing but so is the number of people getting the degree. I really like this article, they have bright futures in any area of nursing that they want because their grades were so high. It just shows that hard work can pay off.

Georgia Regents University's body donation program benefits future of medicine - The Augusta Chronicle

Georgia Regents University's body donation program benefits future of medicine
The Augusta Chronicle
On one cadaver, five students in the nurse anesthesia program are examining the structures in the head and neck.
Anna Simonelli's insight:

This sounds very interesting because if this was offered at EvCC, then I could have been one of those anatomy students disecting a body. It makes me want to look into a school that offers that to it's students since that is very interesting. It's awesome that people are willing to donate their bodies becasue it benefits the students since they are no longer just stairing at blurry picutres in a book, because I know what that is like. It's much more interesting to see things through our own eyes then through a picture someone else took.
