Excited that a powerful oponent has appeared after so long, Goku ignores King Kai's advce and challenges Birusu in a battle. However, Goku is no match for Birusu's overwhelming power and is defeated. Birusu leaves after uttering an ominous message, “Is there anyone on Earth more worthy to destroy?” Will Goku and the others really be able to stop the God of Destruction?!

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is set between the 517th and 518th installments of Akira Toriyama's original manga. Specifically, it is set during the "lost decade" of story time after the end of the battle with Majin Buu. Kuririn, Piccolo, Vegeta, Gohan, and other familar characters will appear in the film with an all-star cast. The film is not a spinoff, but a story in the official history of Dragon Ball.

Akira Toriyama has been deeply involved in the film's story and designs from the early screenwriting stages. Masahiro Hosoda (Dragon Ball Z episode director, Nangoku Shounen Papuwa-kun) is directing at Toei off a script by Yūsuke Watanabe (live-action 20th Century Boys trilogy, Gantz, Bloody Monday, Future Diary).

The film will open in Japan on March 30.

Sentai Filmworks Adds Amagami SS+ TV Anime | Anime News | Scoop.it

The North American anime licensing company Sentai Filmworks announced on Tuesday that it has licensed the Amagami SS+ television anime series. The company plans to release the series digitally, and then on subtitled DVD next year.

The 13-episode series originally aired in Japan from January to March. Tomoki Kobayashi (sola, Tears to Tiara, Ichigo 100%) directed the series at studio AIC.

Like the first Amagami SS anime, Amagami SS+ adapts Enterbrain's PlayStation 2 romance simulation game Amagami. The original game centers around a second-year high school boy who find himself uneasy during Christmastime due to an experience in the past. However, this year at Christmas, he gets his last chance to ask out a graduating female senior named Haruka Morishima — or one of several other classmates.

Sentai Filmworks previously released the first Amagami SS season in North America in two sets in September and November 2011.

What Headphones Anime Characters Are Wearing

What Headphones Anime Characters Are Wearing | Anime News | Scoop.it

Female characters wearing large headphones is a trope in Japanese anime. The headphones make the characters' heads look smaller, thus, by anime standards, appear "cuter". Tropes aside, the headphones are often based on real products. But which ones?

In the past few years, on anime sites, music sites, and anime music sites, audiophiles and casual listeners alike have been trying to nail down the real world versions of the various headphones they spot.

That's why on Japanese forum 2ch, net users marveled out how a "foreigner" worked hard to compile a detailed list of the actual types of headphones that appeared in various anime and video games. (The 2ch thread didn't cite the source, so if you know which thread this image originally appeared on, let us know so we can credit.)

Check out the real world versions in the gallery above—also check out how expensive they are. Manaka Takane from Konami's Love Plus love simulator is sporting Sennheiser headphones that cost well over a thousand bucks.

Get "Moévated" to Do Squats in "Burn Fat With Me 3.0"

Get "Moévated" to Do Squats in "Burn Fat With Me 3.0" | Anime News | Scoop.it

Ready for some otaku fitness? Well, Creative Freaks are set for the December 3.0 update to "moévation" app Burn Fat With Me. In this version of the gal game/fitness tool for iOS, Android and Amazon Kindle Fire, childhood friend Mayu Uehara puts you through the paces working your legs with some squats.

http://youtu.be/T5_hRH01UIk

============================================
"Burn your fat with me!!" is the first in a series of "moévation" fitness apps from Japanese indie developer Creative Freaks.

Instead of just supplementing your workout, "Burn your fat with me!!" motivates you to stay on track through "moé," a Japanese term describing that special, heart-melting feeling you get when you see an adorable female anime character.

============================================
Ok, I see what you did there, but how does it work?
============================================
At its core, "Burn your fat with me!!" is a Japanese visual novel game akin to the Pheonix Wright or Professor Layton series. But instead of building a case or solving puzzles, players advance the story by working out and clearing predetermined goals, such as performing 50 sit-ups in three minutes.

The story revolves around the player's relationship with childhood friend Mayu Uehara, who also counts your repetitions and cheers you on during your workout. After all, what better way to stay motivated than the support of a cute girl?

============================================
This sounds like exactly what I need in my life!
============================================
It probably is! The current version features 15 story episodes with over 800 voiced lines, available in both English and Japanese, and plenty of original illustrations to moévate you through your sit-ups and push-ups and squat.

We've got plenty of ideas in the pipeline, so you can expect to see more content and exercises in future updates. We're a small team with limited time and resources, but we'd love to keep improving this app so long as there are people using it!

Characters include:

Mayu Uehara
~ voiced by ~
Rina “Mizura” Adachi

http://burnyourfatwithme.com/mayu.jpg

Your childhood friend, estranged after you moved during grade school. The two of you are reunited after being placed in the same homeroom class during your 2nd year of high school. She’s quick to overreact and gets jealous even quicker. She enjoys watching sports teams practice after school, though she doesn’t belong to any clubs herself.

Yuki Hashio
~ voiced by ~
Apphia Yu

http://burnyourfatwithme.com/yuki.jpg

A first-year student at your school. Despite her girlish appearance, she is a tomboy at heart and her assertive, outspoken and often cynical manner tends to intimidate those around her. She belongs to the track and field club and enjoys playing video games.

Marika Kugawa
~ voiced by ~
Amber Lee Connors

http://burnyourfatwithme.com/marika.jpg

A third-year student and one of the most recognized names at your school. Class president and member of the school’s gymnastics club, she has excellent reflexes and does very well academically, though you’d do well not to mention her short stature. She’s soft-spoken and a bit of an airhead, but pulls through when the situation demands it.

US National Endowment for the Arts Awards Grant to "Anime Momotaro" Stage Production

US National Endowment for the Arts Awards Grant to "Anime Momotaro" Stage Production | Anime News | Scoop.it

The American National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Rocco Landesman recently announced that theatrical non-profit Imagination Stage has been recommended for a $30,000 grant to support Anime Momotaro. This is the largest grant that the theatre has ever received from the NEA.

The anime-inspired production seeks to provide a cultural context to the American in Japanese pop culture and aesthetics with its retelling of the Edo period folktale about the heroic adventures of a boy found in a giant peach.

Grant funds will be used to bring in Honolulu Theatre for Youth Artistic Director Eric Johnson and his colleague, Alvin Chang, to expand upon their original production of Anime Momotaro, which premiered in Honolulu in 2011.

From Imagination Stage's description of the play:
An old couple in ancient Japan long for a child. They have their wish granted when a huge peach floats down the river and breaks open to reveal a baby boy. They name him Momotaro, and he grows up to be the strongest young man in all of Japan. But Momotaro's village has a tiny problem...GIANT OGRES! Ogres have been bullying the villagers for years, and Momotaro decides he must make a stand. With the help of friends-the dog Inu, the monkey Saru, and the bird Kiji-Momotaro meets his foes face-to-face. Performed in the style of popular anime cartoons with traditional Japanese influences, this action-packed staging of Japan's most famous folktale teaches powerful lessons about inner strength and how creativity, kindness, and cooperation win out over brute force.

In March 2012, the NEA received 1,509 eligible applications for Art Works requesting more than $74 million in funding. From that, 832 recommended NEA grants totaled $22.3 million.

The production will be staged in Bethesda, Maryland January 30–March 10, 2013
