Pixar-Colorscript Video

Kailyn Dunn's insight:

This video explores the depth involved in planning the original drawings that result in animation. The production designers and art directors make a quick "colorscript" which shows the mood and emotions of the scenes, before there is a lot of detail involved. They are able to layout these scenes on one board to see the "broad strokes" of the entire film. The colorscript is used as a basic outline that will stay consistent throughout the movie, despite the changing details. This video is important because it shows the organization that goes into creating animation.

Kailyn Dunn's insight:

When researching the animation of "Toy Story", it is important to know what behind the scenes creativity goes into making the film come together. Ed Catmull, the President of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, gives readers insight to the important tips of making these creative films. His tips are "encouraging honesty, making mistakes, protecting the new, and acknowledging the unknown". Kailyn Dunn's insight:

This is a great video for understanding more than just the pictures behind animation. It is not only computer generated characters; it is also real people using their voices to project the character. The sound in an animated film, as in all films, is very important, so I think it is important to see how it is produced. I particularly like this video, because it truly interests me to see how the actors really get into their characters. It can also be very funny to watch.

The animation studio is taking its popular characters from "Toy Story" and bringing them to the small screen.
Kailyn Dunn's insight:

This video is a great insight to what goes into creating animated films. It looks at the recent development of "Toy Story of Terror", and explains how long it takes to create this short film animation. This is crucial to my Scoop-It because it compares the amount of time it takes to plan and create an accurate depiction of an animated film to the viewing time of the film. In my research on how the animation of "Toy Story" films has been created, it is important to know a time frame for the information. The most valuable information was learning that it may take the animators two weeks to make five minutes of film. It is also important to know what goes into making an accurate animation. When we watch films, all of the motion seems natural, which is a result of careful planning and observations of nature.

Toy Story 3 - Trailer

Trailer for upcoming Disney Pixar movie Toy Story 3 - the much anticipated third installment in the series! In cinemas 2010
Kailyn Dunn's insight:

The "Toy Story 3" trailer is a much different trailer than the original "Toy Story" trailer. Even with 15 years of updated technology, the same background is shown in Andy's room, the same toys are present with the same voices, and even little objects such as the ball are shown in both previews. The difference in this trailer is that Disney and Pixar do not have to prove how great the animation will be in this movie or how interesting the story line of this movie will be. By showing characters and settings that are familiar to long time viewers, we are immediately drawn in. In this trailer we do not know anything about the plot, but it is funny and it still makes someone who is familiar with "Toy Story" interested in watching it. This is an important piece of research because it proves the success of the animation in "Toy Story".

Kailyn Dunn's insight:

This video is very important to understanding what goes in to creating an animated film, such as "Toy Story". I picked this video, because it is easy to see the process of how the animation is created. It shows you how much time and detail goes into every single motion of each and every character in an animated film. It shows great detail that gives my research insight to the production of animation.

Maybe you've heard Harnell in one of the three "Toy Story" movies, or "Finding Nemo," or one of the other Disney-Pixar films in which his voice has appeared.
Kailyn Dunn's insight:

This article is important to my research on animation, because it goes beyond the pictures and images of the film and focuses on the sound. The characters in "Toy Story" are defined in a lot of ways by their voices. This article shows how the actors who create the voices feel about being the voice behind those characters. I was surprised to find that these actors do not feel the need to be big Hollywood stars. The article discusses how the actors truly enjoy producing their character's voice, and they do not feel the need to have a high celebrity status.

Disney's "Toy Story" Scares Up New Business

Toy Story of Terror will debut tomorrow night, and it's a safe bet that the Halloween special will continue to play this time of year for a long time.
Kailyn Dunn's insight:

This research looks more at the business side of animation, which is crucial to understanding why large companies are producing seasonal animation, based on characters from movies, for television. The article discusses the new "Toy Story" seasonal television entertainment, "Toy Story of Terror". Disney competes with other large animation companies such as DreamWorks Animation. DreamWorks is already creating seasonal television films, so Disney is trying to do the same to not fall behind the advances that are being made by these other companies. It also discusses how many hours Americans spend watching television, which helps us to understand why Disney would want to make a television production opposed to a movie.
