Kid Science: Gross Science - Android Apps on Google Play

Rhondda Powling's insight:

This app is for the type of kids who love the more interesting science applications, the one's who like the Horrible science books. Most of the boys I know would enjoy to create a batch of snot, grow some mold and recreate the scent of stinky feet.

The Gross Science is full of "icky" info and activities that seem really quite gross to adults but which could just create some new science fans for life.

"From the app you can share your collage to Google Drive, Instagram, Facebook, Dropbox, and many other file sharing services" He has also included a video where he demonstrates how to use the tool without creating a PicCollage account. It is a free tool and available as an Android or iPad app.

Trading Cards - ReadWriteThink

Trading Cards - ReadWriteThink | Android Apps in Education | Scoop.it
Invigorate students' writing with an interactive tool that allows them to demonstrate their comprehension using a mobile app.
Rhondda Powling's insight:

From ReadWriteThink, the Trading Cards app could give students and alternative way to share what they understand about the characters and places from the books they have been reading.

The fields/categories that can be documented include: fictional person, real person, fictional place, real place, object, event and vocabulary word. Each category has specific guiding questions to assist students. Space is limited so students have to be able to demonstrate their ideas succinctly and only include the most important information. The app is easy to use, has good "how-to" information, auto-saves and can be printed or emailed.

HomeTube - Android Apps on Google Play

HomeTube transforms your Android device into a safe, child-friendly haven where kids have instant access to watch whatever YouTube content they want from a list of content you deem suitable.
Child-friendly navigation allows kids to switch from watching a Curious George video to a Spider-man or Dora cartoon without requiring you to navigate them to the new content yourself. No more having to take hold of the device yourself to change the content that is displaying as your child's mood changes on a whim!

A useful app for anyone using Youtube with younger students as you can control the content the students can access through YouTube to make sure the content is suitable.

This is an online comic creator. It offers flexibility and quite a lot of customization with the options and features. This flexibility in Bitstrips comics allows you to create virtually any story that you can imagine.

Students could create their own stories, retell fairy tales/fables. They could even use the tool to create an avatar for themselves or single panel images for newspaper type cartoon. I think it could be especially useful in EAL and language studies
