Free Technology for Teachers: How to Use PicCollage - And Five Ideas for Using It In Your Classroom | Android Apps in Education | Scoop.it
Rhondda Powling's insight:

Another useful post from Richard Byrne with some good ideas about using PicCollage with students. With the app you can arrange pictures, video, text, and stickers into collages very easily. "From the app you can share your collage to Google Drive, Instagram, Facebook, Dropbox, and many other file sharing services" He has also included a video where he demonstrates how to use the tool without creating a PicCollage account. It is a free tool and available as an Android or iPad app.

Trading Cards - ReadWriteThink

Trading Cards - ReadWriteThink | Android Apps in Education | Scoop.it
Invigorate students' writing with an interactive tool that allows them to demonstrate their comprehension using a mobile app.
Rhondda Powling's insight:

From ReadWriteThink, the Trading Cards app could give students and alternative way to share what they understand about the characters and places from the books they have been reading.

The fields/categories that can be documented include: fictional person, real person, fictional place, real place, object, event and vocabulary word. Each category has specific guiding questions to assist students. Space is limited so students have to be able to demonstrate their ideas succinctly and only include the most important information. The app is easy to use, has good "how-to" information, auto-saves and can be printed or emailed.

Flipboard

Flipboard | Android Apps in Education | Scoop.it

This Your Social Magazine. Available for iPad, iPhone & Android.

Rhondda Powling's insight:

This is a tool that I can envisage being used in a number of ways by teachers and students.

Teachers could create a magazine for their students, whereby they "flip” all the articles, resources, etc they want students to access into the magazine which the students subscribe to. This could also be a ways of sharing professional learning materials between teaching colleagues, with all having access to add content.

Students could create a resource that they could add content to create a “textbook”.  An entire class could have access to a magazine, allowing all the students to add to the “textbook” thus creating a  very rich resource about a given topic or subject.

Game Design Engine, Make Games for iPhone & Android - GameSalad

Game Design Engine, Make Games for iPhone & Android - GameSalad | Android Apps in Education | Scoop.it
GameSalad is the world’s fastest game design engine. Learn to make and publish hit games for free on iPhone, iPad, Android & HTML5. No coding required.
Rhondda Powling's insight:

An authoring tool developed by GameSalad Inc (previously Gendai Games) aimed for the most part at non-programmers. It uses a drag-and-drop interface (using visual editors and a behavior-based logic system) that lets you build your games relatively easily.

It could be a good tool for teaching game design to students as the drag-and-drop user interface lets students build their own games then publish and distribute the games withing the classroom or more widely.
