Android Apps in Education

Kathy Schrock has put together some great lists of tools that address Bloom’s. Her site lists of Google specific Blooms tools, iPad/iPhone specific tools, and Android specific apps to support Bloom's revised taxonomy

Create drawings and documents on your android device. You can use free-hand drawing tools, typing tools or a combination of the two. They can then be sent to and synced with other users so that they can comment and edit.

A to-do / list making app. It is simple, syncs across multiple devices, and offers location-based reminders.

A list of free copies of the 30 most popular Shakespearean works on Project Gutenberg. You can simply follow the links to download for your reading device.

A lot of those mentioned are for Apple products but some android devices too

Explaining how to use Vocabla to Improve your vocabulary. This is a simple tool that will assist with learning English (to Advanced English), Spanish, and Polish vocabulary. More languages may follow. It can be used online or with a free Android app. It is similar to a lot of other language learning applications. You can create lists of words and phrases that you want to learn or you can select a list that was made by someone else and shared to the Vocabla library. You can study each list as a type of flashcard and when you are ready you can take a practice quiz. Teachers might like using Vocabla to create a list of words and share with their class. All the students could use the list to study on their own. 

"Google Play for Education will be an app store designed specifically for teachers and students. Developers will be able to submit their apps this summer. Some selected developers announced at I/O include NASA and PBS. The best part of Google Play for Education will be the ability for teachers (or administrators) to purchase apps and push them out to all of the devices in their schools."

A free Android app for your phone or tablet. With this app you can point find out what star, constellation, or planet you are observing at that time. Automatic mode - the app uses GPS data, compass data, date, and time- to determine where you are and what you are looking at.

Manual mode - explore the night sky almost in the same way as you use Google Earth to find a places on Earth.

A classroom management app that will allow you to monitor students’ progress with the tap of a finger. It allows you to enter students’ names and their academic and behavioural goals. You can also  add data and notes about progress during each lesson with the student

Not all are apps but a good place to start.

For iPad insert "Tablet": the questions and arguements are still very valid and worth considering
