Changes to Surveillance Bill Stoke Anger | Andrew Wood Current Events Scrapbook | Scoop.it
At the Obama administration’s request, House leaders revised a bill that limits the government’s bulk collection of phone records, spurring several civil liberties groups to withdraw support for the bill.

The government is looking to stop looking at your phone calls. They met to discuss this issue and others concerning The FBI and CIA are getting new leadership soon and the president will need to regulate the ability that the company are in charge of.

This is something I feel that the government should always be on top of if they can keep the public support Then they can use money for the peoples better life's instead of keeping tabs on everyone. The new leadership needs to be one that will be trying to protect rather than watch over.

In the U.S., Punishment Comes Before the Crimes

In the U.S., Punishment Comes Before the Crimes | Andrew Wood Current Events Scrapbook | Scoop.it
In 2012, 2.2 million Americans were in jail or prison, a larger share of the population than in any other country.
Andrew Patrick Wood's insight:

 (Quarter 4 may 12-17)

Who new that many people are in jail because we all just like to punish people. We as a nation have more people in jail than any other country in the world. around 7 million citizens are in jail in the United States. This is the POLITICAL SYSTEM of today's economy. We forget that we need working class people to keep a society running.

When I first looked at this artical I though no way why would we just rush trials and put people in to server time. I also though were is the CHECKS and BALANCES that would see if the judicial side of things is going in the right direction. I hope that the nation will solve this or it least lower the numbers of people going to jail.

The Current State of American Political Culture

Citizen participation, a healthy dose of cynicism, mass media, and American identity are all huge parts of our current political culture.
Andrew Patrick Wood's insight:

Date: Quarter 3, Week 1, January 20-26

There are too many things that contribute to political culture. Certain themes seem to reoccur throughout, and these are what are important in understanding the state of American politics. Citizen participation, a healthy dose of cynicism, mass media, and American identity are all huge parts of our current political culture. It seems that now more than ever before the government is actualy joined together.

Court Extends, in 2 States, Its Halt of Proof-of-Citizenship Voting Rules

Court Extends, in 2 States, Its Halt of Proof-of-Citizenship Voting Rules | Andrew Wood Current Events Scrapbook | Scoop.it
The United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit has delivered a new setback to officials in Arizona and Kansas, ruling that residents there can continue registering to vote using a federal form without having to show proof of citizenship.
Andrew Patrick Wood's insight:

(Quarter 4 may 19-23)

Kansas is looking to make it easier to vote in federal elections and they need to change the right of citizenship. This is a requirement that you must show prof of being a citizen when you vote. Do they really need the new law or is this good enough for the government. Apparently this is not enough for the state representative who is planning to push this new law thou the government.

I feel that this should be the states choice and it should be solved fast before the next elections. This can be an easy fix for the many states that still have this old law in place. However this being in the governments hands I feel will never get anywhere.

The US is an oligarchy, study concludes - Telegraph

The US is an oligarchy, study concludes - Telegraph | Andrew Wood Current Events Scrapbook | Scoop.it

(Report by researchers from Princeton and Northwestern universities suggests that US political system serves special interest organisations, instead of voters

Andrew Patrick Wood's insight:

(Quarter 4 4/21/2014

The response  by Zachary davies boren shows his insite on the government today and how the government take over that he sees as one of america's weakest thoughts. This is what the government is coming to in America. Will it end in utter destruction of what we are as a nation?

How long can we trust this government to serve us the people? Rather then serve thous that will pay the government to do whatever they want to see done. This is what power is in the American government now a days. The power is founded on the though that if you have the money or the connections to do what you want you alone could shout out a lot of other peoples opinion. Will we ever be able to control the government as a person with a say in every step we will take as a nation?

It seems that the government is getting into some confusing situations where they needed other branches of government to help lead. The government might soon become untrustworthy for the citizens but gaining trust to the elitists. this can relate to the article I read because it stated a rise in power of the elite and wealthy Americans. The elite people who pay the funds of a politician will get what they want when that politician gets elected. Probably the same case in this article.

5 Things To Expect In Obama's State Of The Union Address

5 Things To Expect In Obama's State Of The Union Address | Andrew Wood Current Events Scrapbook | Scoop.it
Income inequality will get a full airing in President Obama's fifth State of the Union speech.
Andrew Patrick Wood's insight:

This describes the five key points that are adressed in the State Of The Union Address. Number one being income equality or that fact that we should all make enough money to live on. Second was congress tested themes or things that the presidant wants to see happen. Third was the immigration policie. Fourth Affordable care act. As well as fith bringing our troops home and future plans for them.

In my oppion I love the income equality, being able to make around $9.00 an hour would be sweet. The themes that congress was looking at including the new gun policies are somthing that I take greatly infurating. I agree with the background check but why so many limitations, I mean if guns with high magize capasity are not sold in america then people with get them else were. Affordible care act is iffy because for me I see that money going to people that are not going to try to make their lives any better they will just live off the government. In the end it is good to see troops coming back and the immigration policie strangthened.
