Tourism and Antiquities Police have recovered a stolen limestone naos (shrine) hidden inside a residential home in Mit-Rahina town in Al-Badrasheen city, south of Cairo.

Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania's Penn Museum have made a discovery of epic proportions at the Egyptian dig site of Abydos. Archaeologists have unearthed the remains of the previously unknown Pharaoh, Woseribre Senebkay.

This seems like a typical discovery, but apparently marks a significant find for the Second Intermediate Period of Egypt. It's interesting how researchers were able to infer the economic status of Egypt during this time.

Security guards foiled an attempt to steal an antique panel depicting King Merenptah, the fourth ruler of the 19th Dynasty of Ancient Egypt, in the Selsela mountain quarries 20 kilometers north of Kom Ombo, Aswan.

I suppose the historical value is what encouraged the thieves to go after this artifact. Its place in ancient Egypt was the real attraction.

A 3,900-year-old gold shell pendant worth £15,000 (pictured); a £12,000 bronze necklace; two bronze bracelets from Giza, worth £7,000 and dating from 300BC; and a £6,000 Roman earring, also discovered in Egypt, were taken from display cabinets in New Walk Museum's Egypt display.
