Aaronee's curator insight, February 10, 2014 4:32 PM

In China the Pythagorean Theorem we use in America  has a different name and its called Gou Gu Theorem or Gou Gu Xian Theorem. Bi means arm according to the book. The author of the book is unknown , but according to the text it is a collection of the astronomical and mathematical methods of the Shang and Zhou dynasty ( 1100 - 1000 BC).

Patrick Kwong's curator insight, February 13, 2014 6:36 PM

Interestingly, the Chinese were advanced in their mathematical and astronomical practices, judging from the time periods this theorem came out in China and was realized by the Pythagoras.
