8 years? Wow. But anyways, this person's guess is probably right. I mean, why not? What proof is there that there were no shamanic beliefs going around? What if it was a secret, with no physical tools involved? What if... right?

I think its very important for archeologists to know why bones aged/decayed the way they did. Knowing this gives us alot more insight on factors like climate change and other enviromental factors. It could also shed light on how ancient burial rituals took place.
