It's interestng to find out that volcanic ash was a secret weapon the Roman used to create strong city buildings, eventhough it might a bit doubtful now. Howeve, whatever helped preserve their great structures is wonderful becasue it allowed us in the 21 century to still experience these geat beautiful structures.

claudia patino's curator insight, February 7, 2014 8:10 PM

I have wondered why some buildings have survived for hundreds of years. Apparently the extra ingredient was volcanic ash to make concrete more durable. While today's concrete does not contain that ingredient, I am impresses with this idea.

Cindy Garcia's curator insight, October 19, 2013 6:16 AM

In this article, it is mention that in Ancient Greece, the Greek life was ruled by Religion. The temples were created big and beautiful places in Greece because of their strong religion. Architecture in Ancient Greece was magnificent. Greek had three types of architectural systems; Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. They each required different structures and for different use. ("Acropolis." Ancient Greece. University Press Inc, n.d. 2013-2012)

Khai Tran's curator insight, January 27, 2014 4:23 PM

HATSHEPSUT PROJECT

HATSHEPSUT PROJECT | Ancient History- New Horizons | Scoop.it

TUESDAY, 6 DECEMBER 2011

Authors note
I am still very much enjoying the fact that loads of information about the Thutmosides is unknown to me. Every now and again i read a snippet of information worth looking into. Its something i enjoy doing and often helps me to increase my own knowledge.

To my knowledge i am the only person who is logging all of Hatshepsut's items as a hobby. That said, i have to be wary of how my own research may be seen by my peers and those who are of a high status in the field who may from time to time check in on the work.

What i have noticed is that a number of people have conducted research into the life of Hatshepsut which (if i can find it) can be of use.

One of the most popular temples in Geece as it was the most expensive to built.

Cynia Sapp's curator insight, February 24, 2014 11:54 PM

The Parthenon was a building that was built and was burned by the Persians at around 480 BCE. The foundation was made of limestone and marble. It is a beautiful piece of architecture, and it is great because it is still standing.
