No, Egyptians Aren't White... But They Aren't Black Either

No, Egyptians Aren't White... But They Aren't Black Either | Ancient civilization | Scoop.it
When the cast of Exodus: Gods and Kings—Ridley Scott's upcoming Biblical epic—was announced a lot of people made the complaint that the it was overwhelmingly white, a move they decried as both inaccurate and racist. They were right. Unfortunately, in response a lot of people have peddled another historical (and racist) error: that the ancient Egyptians were black and that modern Egyptians are imposters.
Amanda Duvall's insight:

Egyptians are a very historic society. We often try to say they were while or black when reality is they are Middle Eastern/ Jewish/ Arabian in ethnicity. Yes white is a northern European word and the rest of the world is colored, by why? What is wrong with saying Egyptian and harkening back to the time when we connected ourselves to a geographic area? I realize borders change, so speak of the border as it was in the time of the historical activity. If movies want to make ones about a historic time they should have researches who would help to learn what typical skin color was for that area at that time. Then fit the actor to that time.
