Excellent article!

I particularly agree with the statement made that choices are best guesses...aND hopeful steps taken in a specific direction.

My advice:  When you base a decision with all of the facts that you have available at that time, and you can see how the choice leads you closer to your LT career goal....you should be confident knowing that you did your best in making a decision with the information that you had available at that time.

And...that is all any of us can do -- right?

Also, please take a read with the information regarding career anchors.  (Very insightful)

Make it a great day!

Interesting ... it should go without saying that passion/meaning should be more important when it comes to success at work -- was shocked about the demographics which would indicate that the majority of women have a tough time finding meaning in their work or pursueing their passions on the job -- this warrants more digging to get at the heart of the matter.

Let's face it, the world is ever changing ... the strategic environment thrives on dynamic (versus static) stability ... thus the need to continuously learn and grow is persistent.

The moment you decide to stop learning (regardless of reason) is the moment you start becoming irrelevant and obsolete.  Leaders don't just continue learning, they hunger to learn and grown -- and they inspire in their mentees/proteges the same hunger for development.

Melissa St Hill's curator insight, July 8, 2013 2:08 PM

For candidates that are interviewing, this guide may be worth checking out as it explains how to speak about transitions within your career where some can sometimes struggle with in an interview situation.

Cruise Line Class's curator insight, December 15, 2013 10:39 AM

The good news is when you are able to explain your career transition face-to-face.

Good tips in this article.

My advice:  Once you know what you are going to say -- how your going to say it is just as important.

Practice with friends and make sure that you sound honest, genuine, and real.  You won't land a job when the recruiter feels sorry for you.

Remember how you say it is an inside job.  You have to believe it inside first.  Believing in what you are saying so that it doesn't sound like you are making excuses for yourself is important.

What tips have helped you?

Rick Pitino shares his top three career tips?

1. You must have meticulous preparation to win and succeed.

2. If it’s not broken, break it and make it better because your competition will.

3. Stay humble; it creates a hunger that doesn’t allow you to embrace what you have.

Are you stopping yourself...

Are you stopping yourself... | Career Advice, Tips, Trends, Resources | Scoop.it
Cruise Line Class's insight:

I just recently returned from a trip, and I met with a very nice taxi driver.  (long trip to the airport...) He was sharing with me how many mistakes he had made, the dreams he had, and was acting as though he had already reached the end of his life.

When I said to him, so what are you going to do about it?  He responded to all of my suggestions with (yes, but... or its too late for that...I don't have the time...I tried it...)

What we should all realize is that we often are the obstacles that stand in the way of reaching our career aspirations.  What we think, the yes-but responses, the excuses we give to ourselves.

Today, I urge everyone reading this to write down all of the excuses. Stop believing them and re-playing them.  Read them out load, and decide today that you won't let yourself get in the way of reaching your dreams.

You have the pen in your hand right now, and are writing the next chapter in your life for year 2014.  What will the new year bring you?  What obstacles will you overcome?  How proud will you be of what you have learned, and what you have accomplished?

Now how good did it feel to write those accomplishments down?

Okay, start today....If not now...when?

Make it a great day!

Don’t like your job (or career)? You’re not alone. | Career Advice, Tips, Trends, Resources | Scoop.it
We the people are pursuing not only life, liberty, and happiness, but another career or another job.
Cruise Line Class's insight:

The recent survey conducted by Harrison Interactive for University of Phoenix indicates that 55% of people would like to change careers.

The number sounds high; however, ask yourself how many people do you talk to who love what they do, and are happy with their chosen career?

The question is...if you want to be in the percentage of people who love your chosen career -- what can you do, and what is within your control?

Would love to hear from you!!!
